They have been banned from seeing their WAGs during the World Cup. So the England team has opted for the next best thing – lads’ magazine Loaded, which regularly features their wives and girlfriends.

The Football Association has asked the magazine’s publisher to send 50 copies of the June issue to the England camp in South Africa – at the players’ request.

Next best thing... lads' mags such as Nuts and Zoo often feature WAGs in their editions

Loaded – which has featured Peter Crouch’s girlfriend Abbey Clancy and Jermain Defoe’s ex-girlfriend Danielle Lloyd – will be one of the few entertainments for the players, who have also been barred from using websites such as Twitter and Facebook.

An England source said: ‘The players will go into a lockdown. There won’t be any Twittering or Facebooking or anything like that.’

Manager Fabio Capello is so keen that his players are not distracted, he has even asked members of the 2018 England World Cup bid to avoid visiting the training camp, according to a book called Fabio Capello: The Boss by Mark Ryan, published next week.

The ban on the WAGs visiting the England players may be lifted once or twice during the month-long tournament – but players could be dropped if they flout the rules.

An FA spokesman said: ‘We have requested a variety of magazines and books for the players.’
