grids
A campaign launched to give Exeter lad and Coldplay frontman Freedom of the city is gaining support – including from the man himself. The award-winning supergroup frontman Chris Martin said the bid was great on an aAmerican radio interview earlier this month. The campaign is gathering support for Chris' home city of Exeter to recognise his achievements and has now reached 500 supporters. The bid that was launched on facebook under the banner 'Chris Martin for Freedom of Exeter Award'. Those behind the campaign have attempted to enlist the support of Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw, the Lord Mayor Percy Prowse and other members of Exeter City Council. Ben Bradshaw MP will be making representations on behalf of the campaign and the Lord Mayor Of Exeter has said he will be putting it to the leaders of Exeter City Council at the next meeting. The page states: "Chris Martin, lead singer of Coldplay, is yet to be recognised by his hometown. Please like this page so we can bring it to the attention of Exeter City Council." Chris Martin was brought up in Whitestone near Exeter and returned in 2009 for a special home-coming concert at Exeter Castle. The award dates back to the 13th century and recent recipients include civic dignitaries such as David Morrish, who stood down after 50 years in 2011, historic figures such as Lord Nelson and military regiments with links to the city. http://www.exeterexpressandecho.co.uk/Campaign-Coldplay-8217-s-Chris-Martin-Freedom/story-21945384-detail/story.html

grids
New update: BRING COLDPLAY TO POWERDHAM CASTLE COLDPLAY (To Be Confirmed) Help bring Coldplay back to Devon! The last time Coldplay performed in this area was back in 2009 when they headlined an initmate charity gig for only 500 people at Exeter Castle and all profits were donated to Mencap! We think Coldplay deserve a much bigger audience than 500 people which is why we want to convince them to come back to Exeter for a live concert at Powderham Castle. Once all of the bills have been paid we will be splitting the profits and donating it to four different charities which will be chosen by the band. This campaign comes at a time where the multi-platinum selling band have just celebrated the release of their sixth UK number one album, Ghost Stories. Chris Martin the lead singer who originally hails from Exeter is also currently being nominated to receive the Freedom of Exeter Award. As well as Coldplay there will be a number of support acts lined up and if you're in a band we want to hear from you as there will be an opportunity for you to perform in front of thousands of people. We're currently in discussions with the venue and will be contacting Coldplay to let them know of our crowdfunding efforts so please stay tuned for the latest updates. Tickets We aim to work closely with the venue and all event suppliers and sponsors in order to offer you the best ticket price possible. If you contribute towards the crowdfunding target you will pay the reduced ticket price. Once the target has been reached all ticket prices increase. General Entry Tickets will be £40 so by contributing towards the target and helping make this event a success you're receiving a huge discount as a reward. https://beta.crowdcan.do/events/CollaborationEvents/coldplay-at-powderham-castle
