Sierra Kay
I'm sorry if this has been posted, I searched and found nothing. During this year's Super Bowl, you'll see ads sponsored by beer companies, tobacco companies, and the Bush White House. But you won't see the winning ad in MoveOn.org Voter Fund's Bush in 30 Seconds ad contest. CBS refuses to air it. Meanwhile, the White House and Congressional Republicans are on the verge of signing into law a deal which Senator John McCain (R-AZ) says is custom-tailored for CBS and Fox, allowing the two networks to grow much bigger. CBS lobbied hard for this rule change; MoveOn.org members across the country lobbied against it; and now the MoveOn.org ad has been rejected while the White House ad will be played. It looks an awful lot like CBS is playing politics with the right to free speech. Of course, this is bigger than just the MoveOn.org Voter Fund. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) submitted an ad that was also rejected. We need to let CBS know that this practice of arbitrarily turning down ads that may be "controversial" – especially if they're controversial simply because they take on the President – just isn't right. To watch the ad that CBS won't air and sign the petition to CBS to run these ads, go to: http://www.moveon.org/cbs/ad/ MoveOn.org will deliver the petition by email directly to CBS headquarters. Thanks.

rf_ucsd
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the "White House" ad is one from the office of drug control policy and is just one of those stupid "dont' do drugs or you'll do something ridiculous, like rape your cat" ads. (Richard just made himself laugh) The drug ad is somewhat innocuous (though I'm offended by them), while the Bush ad is more confrontational. CBS probably should have the right to do what they want to do. In fact, it's probably good that this happened because now a CBS bias is clear. Besides, Moveon.org is getting more pub from having their ad rejected. In other policial news, Daivd Kay confirms Iraq does not and did not have WMD stockpiles. I honestly think you can make the case that George Bush should be tried in the Haig as a criminal. Too many innocent Americans, Britans, Poles, Iraqi, and others died because he failed to read intelligence correctly and then contructed lies around them. OK, I should shut up. musiclover
Sierra Kay, as it turns out, i happened to be on that web site for the first time today and i saw the ad that they wanted to put up on CBS. I thought that ad was really funny and got the point across of what the Bush tax-cut will do to our forebears. However, what do you expect from networks that even declined to air the Reagan biopic because of its "controversial" nature? Too bad, 'cuz otherwise, the ad would have been seen by millions during the Super Bowl, which is the one top program that attracts people on the basis of watching the innovative ads! :D
Professor Peedston
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) submitted an ad that was also rejected friggin treehuggers so ridiculous they've got 'animals' in their name. where the heck do you get 'treehuggers' from  <<<< is a strong advocate for protecting the environment, nonetheless I was going to ignore that comment, but thanks for correcting it anyway. I'll freely admit that I'm what some people (I like to think of them as "ignorant" :P ) would call a tree-hugger, but PETA has some people who are a little radical for me. Anyway, about CBS, frankly I wasn't surprised at all when I got the email about that, and I believe Richard is right in stating that the "White House ad" is a "Say no to drugs" thing. CBS probably wouldn't air a "Don't vote for Howard Dean or John Kerry or whatever!" ad either. It is a shame though, because it was a very well-done ad, done completely by an amateur, as you all may or may not know.
