Gwyneth Paltrow avoids going to Italy whenever possible because she claims something always bad happens to her when she does.
On her last trip, she flew to Venice for awards ceremony and her plane had to make an emergency landing: “The captain said there was a problem with the plane. All the on-board computers failed and we had to land. There were ambulances and fire trucks on the runway and I realised what a close call it had been.”
Before that though, it’s been a place for bad news: “I was there when I got the news that my grandfather had cancer, then I was shooting The Talented Mr Ripley over there and I heard my father was terminally ill. I went back for my [30th] birthday and my father died while I was in Rome. Lightning even struck my hotel one night. I don’t think Italy wants me there.”
