London fan reviews (part 1): Coldplay end Viva tour with a bang

magicball7.jpgAs more and more Coldplayers who attended the Wembley shows return home, some excellent (and varied) fan reviews of the shows have been posted at the Coldplay Live forum. Here is the first part (of many I'm sure) of the reviews, starting with Coldplay on Friday 18th September:

Went to Wembley on the 18th. A good deal of the crowd were leaving before the end and it was a sign that it was only an OK concert. There lots of pauses and not enough energy ( and a backing track for keyboards sometimes). And 90 minutes? I think we deserve better/more than that. I thought the boys were a bit self indulgent - it's for the fans after all - and we didn't pay to see Simon Pegg, even though I like him. CP don't need support acts, we just need to see more of them. Maybe the big venue didn't help. [thanks danm]

^ Were you standing or seated? I was standing about 30 rows from the front in the centre and I thought the atmosphere was fantastic. The crowd around me knew most, if not all of the songs and were singing loudly. I'm seated tonight and expect a different sort of atmosphere. I noticed early on that most were sitting on their seats until the usual favourite songs were played. I reckoned it was 1hr 50m but I've paid the same price to see 90 minutes of a turgid Premiership football game and do you think those players care about the fans? The fact that the band trekked near the back of the stadium (for the Simon Pegg segment) and utilise the side stage (right stage from our standing position for God Put a Smile/Talk mix, Hardest Part) suggests that at least they made an effort. [thanks mingymoo]

Been to Coldplay arena shows before but wembley is just the king! Must see to believe! A massive gig with unparalleled energy! I so hope this night makes it to the DVD! It was magical! Made quite a few videos from good seats. Will post on YouTube as soon as I'm home. ThAnks everyone and thanks London for a great night! [thanks valypan]

Ok so I love Coldplay and was really looking forward to this gig. But when I want to see Coldplay, I want to see them, not them and Simon Pegg and NOT THEM AND JAY-Z for goodness sake. It was bad enough having him as a support but when he turned up in Lost I couldnt believe it. Having said that, I loved the rest of the gig, and I liked the comedy stuff too. Chris Martin really is a terrific front man! Actually a lot of the people leaving were standing in the arena. In the seating most of us were standing anyway! Totally agree about the supports/Simon Pegg (lovely and talented though he is!) I saw Coldplay in the Liverpool Echo and the atmosphere was electric - it was what made me decide to see them at Wembley. But I do think Wembers is a bit too big - you lose the intimacy of the gig and the sound is a bit echoey. Was the same for Muse. [thanks Bazza12]

I was there last night, and it was bloody awesome! I met so many awesome people - cookie crew, This girl and her mum with the coolest multicolour hat ever. Me and my friend were armed with sharpies (i had coldplay on my forehead and guy (and a heart) on my cheek!) and lent them to everyone around us near the stage (we were about 3rd row guy side!). It was such an awesome day! My friend, my mum and I arrived ast the venue at around half past 1 and joined the queue. We met some awesome people who gave us advice and laughed with us when my friend decorated my face with sharpie pen! The organisation of the queue was excellent and I loved the radio wembley sort of thing that was playing. We ran as fast as we could and couldn't believe our luck when we were situated quite central ( more to Guy's side) about 3/4 rows back from the barrier. White Lies were awesome - it was a shame they had such a short set, would have loved to here taxidermy and from the stars live but oh well. Girls aloud were rubbishy, but were bearable and my friend kinda likes them so it wasn't too horrific. Then Jay-z. Well he isn't usually my cup of tea but man he owned that stage! I thought "Empire State of mind" when Bridget Kelly came on stage was pretty awesome, 99 problems was also great! Then Coldplay, wow! Mr Martin was in top form leaping around everywhere, and the crowd were great! I thought IMP was great and Lost+ with Jay-z was bloody fantastic. I absalutely love the Talk/GPASUYF techno remix thing, its so good! Chris doing The Hardest Part was just beautiful - "I offered this song to take that but they rejected it" lol and postcards was plain brilliant! When the buuterflies came down during LIJ it was just a magical moment, as you all know! What a concert... I'm still reeling from it. After the gig finished I managed to get part of the yellow balloon that Chris popped onstage and stuffed my bag full of butterflies. Going to the tube was also magical, walking down wembley walk with all those fans sing ooowaaahoowohoo was incredible. Best. Night. Ever. [thanks lafferty23]
