Coldplay have just been nominated in the Best Live Act category at this year's Brit Awards, along with Mumford and Sons, Muse, The Vaccines, The Rolling Stones. They are also nominated in the Best British Single category for Princess Of China. More on this news is at the Coldplay forum now [thanks Tash]

Singer Emeli Sande has capped a stellar rise over the past 12 months with four nominations for the 2013 Brit Awards. The star, who had the best-selling album in the UK in 2012, is up for best female, best album and has two tracks in the best single category.

There were three nominations each for Mumford and Sons and Mercury Prize winners Alt-J. Amy Winehouse has received a nomination for best British female after posthumous material was released. Adele, who swept the board at last year's ceremony, is in the running for best single for her James Bond theme Skyfall - meaning she has received Oscar and Brit nominations on the same day. Meanwhile, Artist Damien Hirst has unveiled his original design for this year's Brit Award. It's the third year in a row a famous British artist has put their own stamp on the statue.

Hirst's design has the award, Britannia, covered in his famous spots. It'll be presented to this year's winners during the ceremony at London's O2 Arena on 20 February, which will be hosted by James Corden for the fourth time. Brits Chairman David Joseph said: "Damien is truly one of the most important British artists. "His reimagining of the statue  will make winning a 2013 BRIT an even more special proposition."

Last year's statue was designed by Sir Peter Blake while 2011's was fashioned by Dame Vivienne Westwood. The nominations for this year's awards will be announced on Thursday 10 January at a launch hosted by Radio 1 breakfast host Nick Grimshaw.

Tom Odell has already been chosen as the Brits Critics' Choice winner.
