Q. Around 2000-2002 Coldplay gave away a free cd in a national UK Sunday paper. It was about 4 tracks, one of which I loved but they never released. Do you know what the cd and the track list was please. Been driving me nuts trying to YouTube it!!! Many thanks Gina.

Indeed they did, I remember it well. In 2000 the Independent on Sunday gave away Acoustic, a CD with 4 tracks (& 1 video). The track listing is:

Would you believe you're the 3rd person to ask me the very same question today? That means the answer to you (& the other 2 - and anyone else in fact) is no. I'm sorry but thought I should point out how difficult it is to grant personal requests or dedications. That doesn't mean you can't propose at the show but it won't be possible to have the band's involvement. Good luck to you all. I wonder which gig has had the most number of proposals?

Q. Oh Oracle I need your help. In early December I bought tickets as a present for my boyfriend. We broke up a week later and it wasn't a bad break up. BUT! Lately he's been being a jerk and not a really good friend. The tickets are under my name and they check i.d's. Do I still ask him to go with me to the concert that is in a few weeks, or do I find someone else to go with? I feel bad asking someone else to go with because they were initially for someone else. I hope all this wording made sense and that you can try helping me! Thank you!

Well I have to say that if you buy something for someone as a gift it'd normally be bad form to renege on it. Although... you don't want to be going to a Coldplay concert with someone who has been behaving like an arse either so in this case I would say it's totally acceptable to tell him that you've had a change of heart. Take someone you like who's a good friend and have a great time!

I know you say "I am just one person" but the truth is you are one of thousands of people who would also love the opportunity to meet the band so I'm afraid it just isn't possible regardless of the fact you're in London and so are they.
Regular readers will know I don't encourage people to turn up at the studio so meeting the band is all down to chance but I will tell you something quite funny... As you gave your address I know you live less than a mile away from me! I bet we've passed each other on the High St.

Q. Paradise is absolutely one of my favorite songs, but lately I've started to ponder over the meaning. The dictionary says paradise is a place of extreme beauty, delight, or happiness. Paradise does represent different thing to different people but you can't re-write its dictionary definition. You're right in some ways as a place of extreme beauty, delight or happiness may not always be achievable. The first meaning of paradise I encountered was at church when at primary school. Heaven was commonly referred to as paradise - I suppose it fits - though these days that's the last thing I would think of when thinking of my own paradise. The Maldives is the closest I came to feeling I was in a real paradise but then I also visited a local island where locals lived and it was anything but in comparison. It opened to my eyes to how man-made and false paradise can be too.

Blimey Sharon they've only just got going on the MX campaign so it's not likely they'd be heading back in the studio so soon. January always starts gently with family time and holidays before getting back to work. Work for the guys is all encompassing with promo, rehearsals and preparing for the upcoming tour. There will always be writing going on regardless of the schedule but no new recordings to be released at this early stage.

Camila from Brazil asked me the same thing back on September 2, 2010.
I replied: "Ah yes, it's a mystery as to why that tag doesn't take you to a bona fide Oracle entry. Will had a little mishap on the Viva tour when the end of the drumstick came off hitting him in the nose when he was whacking the bell during Viva la Vida." I now don't know why that (& perhaps this*) answer doesn't appear when you click "Will's nose". * I just tried and indeed it doesn't appear. It's baffling!

Q. I am going to the Emirate stadium 4th June 2012 as part of the stadium tour . I am travelling up to London on the train, I am trying to find out an approx finish time for the concert to see if I need to book an hotel for the night given it's a bank holiday! Cheers Simon.

As you haven't told me where you are travelling back to, I cannot help much. Personally given how many people in large crowds are trying to get home after stadium shows (or matches), I wouldn't advise anyone to rely on a train to get you home without sacrificing the end of the show to ensure you get on the tube and make your train on time. It's up to you but I'd imagine the show would be finished by 11pm.
