The tickets to Elbow's show Saturday at the Avalon read "all ages," but perhaps it should have been billed "for mature audiences only." It's not that the Manchester, England-based quintet's lyrics are laced with expletives, but its thoughtful, mostly midtempo rock is not recommended for those suffering from attention deficit disorder. Elbow's music is aimed at listeners who appreciate subtle musical flourishes and clever wordplay without being hit over that head with a hammer of power chords.

Yesterday the couple announced the birth of their son, and that they had called him Moses. The child arrived safely this weekend, acco

Coldplay's latest hit is an ode to the assets of Mariah Carey. Except you would have had to have been at the China Club on Thursday to hear its one-off performance. Chris Martin's band was giving a private concert for winners of a contest sponsored by radio station WPLJ, when he was asked about the competition between Coldplay's "X&Y" and Carey's "The Emancipation of Mimi" for biggest-selling album of 2005. When WPLJ reporter Brad Blanks asked Martin how he felt about having Mariah on his

Well I can’t believe it’s over. Several weeks ago I had an idea to try to do something special on the last night of the US leg of the CP tour…to say thank you and to show the guys how much their music means to their fans in the US. In the end I met some great people who showed great committment and determination to help my idea come to life. To the friends I have made I say a big thank you for your efforts…I think we accomplished what we set out to do. The night started off great our meeting i

Chris was very ill for the performance with a cold, congestion and throat problems…definitely did NOT want to be there, but bravo to him and Jonny for making a go of it, making us laugh and playing a few songs for the 95 of us that were there. Show started with Chris announcing he was ill, followed by a performance of Til Kingdom Come/Ring of Fire Medley. The host of the show chose me to ask the first question during the first of three Q&A sessions (I had mentioned to her earlier that I’

United Center, Chicago, IL 31st March 2006 Invevitably, a day with no load in following a party is going to be a slow and quiet one. This is enhanced by the fact that Richard Ashcroft isn’t well today, which means no soundcheck, and no show for him. it’s by far the most Sunday-like day of the tour. There’s plenty of afternoon naps and very little activity until finally, showtime rolls around. The ‘Powers of Ten’ footage that is shown on the rears screen during The Scientist, is a journey thr

The arguments in the case between Apple Computer and the Beatles' Apple Corps came to an end on Wednesday, with the judge promising to issue a decision in the battle over the use of the Apple logo later this month. Apple Corps initiated the lawsuit against Apple Computer in London's High Court because it said the computer maker had violated a 1991 agreement in which both companies agreed to stay out of each others' business territory. The record label claims that Apple Computer broke the ag

Let's do all we can do to make it an unbe

Make plans to flee town while you can. There are black holes that suck less than this lineup. How much vile Limey crapness can one venue stand? If you don't know why Coldplay are evil, then you're evil. You also like James Blunt, U2, Morrissey and Travis. And you think the stuff on sale at Pier 1 is "classy." Ex-Verve singer "Grizzly" Dick Ashcroft once boasted to the NME that he was "in the same room" as the Beatles and Hendrix. And so he is. "Hey, boy! Move your arse! More tea and biscuits-cho

So autumjoy had all these grand plans of how to wander around the city looking for the guys. Me, being the paranoid cynical type I am thought this was a little crazy and would never work. I went to the huge (amazing) Broken Social Scene concert Saturday night, and woke up Sunday hardly able to hear, and barely able to move I ached so much. As much as I really wanted to find the guys, I couldn't bear the though of moving more than a couple of feet at a time, and like I said, I didn't think we had
