In the third eventful part of Coldplay’s Xfm Residency last night, Simon Pegg once again dodged the world’s biggest band’s phone calls. Admitting they “didn’t have great radio personalities, but have buckets of enthusiasm and passion”, Coldplay tried calling the star of Spaced and Shaun Of The Dead to add spice to their show. Chris Martin, Guy Berryman and Johnny Buckland were forced to leave a message on the actor’s voicemail as fears grew that the feud between these former friends was worsen

Simon Pegg is hoping Coldplay will let him direct one of their next music videos. The comedian, who features in the new Star Trek movie, told GQ magazine: "I'd love to direct some day. Doing a music video would be a great start. I've said to Chris [Martin, Coldplay frontman] a couple of times, if we get some time, I'd love to script a song." The Shaun of The Dead star has collaborated with Coldplay once before, when he joined the band onstage in December 2008. Pegg played harmonica for the liv

Not only has the Australian teams' valiant World Cup campaign kept the world's biggest band entertained as they battle jetlag on tour but it has inspired frontman Chris Martin to pay tribute to the team in song. "If it's there milk it, I say,'' Martin joked yesterday, as the band prepared for their three-night stand at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. "It's a gift for a frontman to arrive in a country and find there's lots of yellow jerseys and the team is doing really well. You don't hav

Sir Paul McCartney has accused EMI, his former record company, of becoming boring and taking him for granted. The former Beatle, speaking to The Times, complained that the British record company had become too bureaucratic – and how he had “dreaded going to see them”. “Everybody at EMI had become part of the furniture. I’d be a couch; Coldplay are an armchair. And Robbie Williams, I dread to think what he was. But the most important thing was, I’d felt [the people at EMI] had become really ver

Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor has blasted Coldplay's music, claiming their current album Viva La Vida is "self-celebratory". The singer, speaking on Zane Lowe's show on MTV 2, was asked to describe his thoughts on the band's current offering and launched into a foul-mouthed tirade against it. Pulling no punches, Taylor said there was absolutely nothing about Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends that he liked. "That is one of the most self-celebratory pieces of **** I've ever ******* hear

After Coldplay's sound check in Oklahoma City, frontman Chris Martin and guitarist Johnny Buckland jumped into the green Ford F-150 owned by hometown hero Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips, report our friends at The Smoking Section. "They just got in the back of the truck," Coyne tells the Smoking Section. "I really didn't know what they wanted to see. "So Coyne took them on the grand tour, hitting the Long John Silver's where he worked for eleven years, the Blue Note (site of the Lips' first gi

OK. 2005 sucked ass, huh? Not for us. In 2005, the Smoking Section caught Neil Young's historic gigs at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, polished off a bottle of Crown Royal with Dave Grohl on a private jet, sang drunken karaoke with Coldplay in Tokyo, saw Bob Dylan eight times, was mistaken for a male porn star by Perry Farrell, drank Scotch at Roger Waters' ridiculous Manhattan apartment, sat poolside at the L.A. Four Seasons with Al Green, surfed with Jack Johnson and late on the night of

Atop the charts in the U.K., the five-piece indie rockers impress at times, but seriously lack range Coldplay is on a much-deserved hiatus after touring the world this year, but their spirit appears to be living on in the form of Scotland-based Snow Patrol. The indie rockers, who actually hail from Northern Ireland and have been around slightly longer than Coldplay, performed to a full house at the Electric Factory Saturday night. But as hundreds of girls pined for the lads with the sensitiv

Though battered by the failure of rock stars to deliver albums on time, music giant EMI will this week reassure investors that better days lie ahead. Delays to new releases from Coldplay and the Gorillaz were behind a profits warning issued by EMI earlier this year and the music giant has guided the City to a haul of around £138m for the year to March 31 against £163.4m last time. Both albums will be on store shelves by June 6 so investors will hope for a less turbulent time ahead, although
