Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow have turned down an invitation from the Queen to attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace this summer.   The high-profile couple, whose daughter Apple celebrated her first birthday earlier this month have decided attending the royal bash would not be to their taste.   Chris Martin says, "We do live in the neighbourhood, but we didn't think we should go. As much as we like the Queen, I've still got years of rebellion in me."   Source: ContactMusic

Coldplay have enough documentary footage to make their own 'Let It Be' style movie of the making of 'X&Y, nme.com can reveal.   The band have documented the entire recording process of making of their album, but singer Chris Martin joked that there would only be enough for a "five-minute DVD".   He said: "We've been documenting stuff from the beginning, but we just don't release it at all. There's a vault in London with 500 hours of us in the studio. One day we'll be able to whittle it down

If you're a Coldplay fan, you are probably aware that there are 233 hours (give or take a few) until X&Y, the band's third album, hits stores on June 6th. You might even be counting those hours — because Coldplay most certainly are.   "We're in that period where it's like we're waiting for exam results — we've worked as hard as we could and now we have to wait for this period until things get marked," frontman Chris Martin explained. "And so it's probably the healthiest thing for us to go ar

Since their formation in Los Angeles in 1998, the fiercely original quartet Rilo Kiley has become an unqualified favorite of savvy music fans and critics across the country and around the world.   Fronted by a pair of gifted songwriters in Blake Sennet and the charismatic Jenny Lewis, dubbed by Entertainment Weekly as "the heiress apparent to Patsy, Petula, and Chrissie," the band is about to burst into even greater trajectory thanks to "More Adventurous," their brilliant third album and first

The eagerly awaited launch of Coldplay’s third album will be backed with what is claimed to be a media first – music beamed directly commuters’ mobile phones from giant advertising screens.   The deal to promote X&Y will see six of Maiden’s Transvision screens at six London mainline stations used to send content via Bluetooth technology to handsets when a trailer for the band is shown.   The first stage of the campaign, prior to the album’s launch on 6 June, will include the trailer for the

Last night at a fundraiser event for New York's Robin Hood charity, Chris joined the legend that is Stevie Wonder on stage.   He sang with him on Stevie's classic track "Superstition". The benefit was held at the Jacob Javits cente and raised funds to target poverty in NYC.   Two years ago the charity auctioned off the chance to join Coldplay on stage at Madison Square Gardens on 13th June 2003. The highest bid was $500,000 and the winner sang In My Place.   Source: Coldplay.com

Chris Martin has spoken to Yahoo! Music about the "fear" he's experienced as a father, on the eve of the release of the new Coldplay album "X&Y".   In an exclusive interview, Martin spoke about his daughter Apple and the impact she has had on the music of the band and his relationship with wife Gwyneth Paltrow.   As the band release their comeback single "Speed Of Sound", Martin also revealed the other pressures and inspirations that fuelled the band's follow-up to the globe-conquering "A Ru

One of Chris Martin's favourite ever groups, labelmates Radiohead, described Coldplay as 'lifestyle music'.   "We're like an eager dog just yapping around Radiohead's heels,' he adds 'and they're trying to kick us away," he jokes. "It's like unrequited love. I'm in love with a lot of things. Some of those things love me back. And some of them don't - and one of them is Radiohead."   You can read the full article here   [thanks ze_newie83]

Music giant EMI's profits have fallen after its major artists Coldplay and Gorillaz delayed the release of their new albums.   Both missed out on bonuses from the British label to make deadlines imposed on their new LPs, so they could perfect their work.   But the delay has had an adverse effect on the world's third largest music company - which today announced its full-year pre-tax profit fell from $300 million (GBP162.3 million) last year (04) to $259.5 million (GBP141.9 million).   Shares are

LONDON - Coldplay's new album, X&Y, is to be launched through an outdoor campaign using screens that can send tracks to people's mobile phones via Bluetooth technology.   Giant Transvision screens in London mainline stations will display ads for the album and the current single 'Speed of Sound'. In the week prior to the album's launch on 6 June, content including band photos, screensavers and selected tracks from the album will be available for download to mobile phones.   The Bluecasting te

Coldplay look likely to be beaten to the Number One spot this week by a song originally designed as a ringtone.   According to music retailer HMV, Crazy Frog's 'Axel F' is outselling 'Speed Of Sound' by a 4 to 1 margin in their stores.   Chart expert Gennaro Castaldo said: "Music purists might not be too happy at the prospect of the Crazy Frog outselling Coldplay, but it shouldn't come as that much of a surprise when you consider its huge novelty appeal and the massive amount of exposure its cur

Though battered by the failure of rock stars to deliver albums on time, music giant EMI will this week reassure investors that better days lie ahead.   Delays to new releases from Coldplay and the Gorillaz were behind a profits warning issued by EMI earlier this year and the music giant has guided the City to a haul of around £138m for the year to March 31 against £163.4m last time.   Both albums will be on store shelves by June 6 so investors will hope for a less turbulent time ahead, although

Apple [not the baby] took advantage of Coldplay’s appearance on Saturday Night Live this week to air the first of what appears to be a new style of iTunes commercials.   The 30-second spot, which is a vast departure from the company’s cartoon-like silhouette ads, features Coldplay performing their new single “Speed of Sound” in order to promote the band’s new album, X&Y, on the iTunes Music Store. It is not clear whether the commercial was created from original footage or if it was taken fr

Coldplay want Beyonce Knowles to star in the video for their next single Fix You, because their fans deserve more "gorgeous girls".   The band aren't confident people like their promo for Speed Of Sound, the first single from their new album X+y - but they think they are naturally disadvantaged because there are no women in the group.   Frontman Chris Martin says, "I think the only way for us to get a video that does really well is for us to get Beyonce in it. I'm not sure how we're going to do

Moloko sexpot Roisin Murphy has voiced her disgust for power chord heavy rockers such as Keane and Coldplay - as she claims they are from the 'anthems by numbers' school of songwriting.   The sequin-sporting singer listed the offence as her 'Pet Hate' in Uncut magazine, and slammed the culprits as "annoying and predictable."   She rants, "Hearing ascending and descending power chords. The worst culprits are probably Keane and Coldplay - every song they release goes up and then down then up agai
