Last week Miss Lavigne dropped by Jo Whiley's Live Lounge and delivered a song that sounds suspiciously like Coldplay's "The Scientist"!   In Avril's hands, one of Coldplay's best ballads is rendered truly tepid, and dare we say ... a little pitchy? Perhaps we're just partial to Aimee Mann's take.   We're not anti-Avril, but between this and her mawkish take on "Imagine" (hasn't Darfur suffered enough?) we're thinking girlfriend should stick to the mall punk.   Listen to the cover here

Digital Spy have the first online review of Coldplay's new B-Side 'The Goldrush'. It will be released alongside 'Life In Technicolor ii' [pictured] next week. Here is their article:   We've already shone a spotlight on Girls Aloud, Pink and Lily Allen, so it's about time we gave the boys a chance in our B-side Of The Week feature. It's not a massive week on the new releases front, but one B-side worthy of a wee listen is 'Goldrush', the flipside to Coldplay's new single 'Life in Technicolor ii'.

Babelgum has announced that it's developed an iPhone application specifically on Coldplay. The app includes video content, as well as a Coldplay news feed and a minigame.   The big inclusion is the video for the track Strawberry Swing, which was directed by a group of visual artists called Shynola, who have also worked with Beck, Blur, Junior Senior and Radiohead. The Strawberry Swing video is joined by all the band's previous videos, too.   In the minigame included, Chris Martin "battles gian

The opportunity to open for arguably the world’s biggest band right now was intensely sought after, and Sydney outfit Decoder Ring couldn’t be more thrilled to have been hand selected by Coldplay for the job. They will take the stage in front of over 150,000 eager fans when they perform in eleven arena shows across Australia, on Coldplay’s ‘Viva La Vida’ tour later this month.   Their first performance takes place in less than thirty days in Perth on Friday 27th February, the first of two shows

As you will know by now, Coldplay's Paradise music video was released yesterday and its scenes feature Cape Town trademarks and local spots specifically requested by lead singer Chris Martin - including Woodstock Cycle Works - and shopowner Nils Hansen said he was shocked that they wanted to film at his store. Hansen initially turned away the location scout and cameraman, writes the Cape Times today. [Don't forget you can watch and rate the video in the 'elephant poll' thread at the Paradise sub

The story of Peter Pan and the music of Coldplay are not typically seen together in a ballet performance.   However, this Sunday, Volé, Penn State's student-run ballet club, will feature these themes in its spring performance.   Stripay said the spring performance consists of two acts: "Peter Pan" and "Coldplay Ballet".   More about the "Coldplay Ballet" here

Madonna has been banned from the Band Aid III supergroup by Sir Bob Geldof - because she's American.   It's a huge snub for the Queen of Pop, who calls herself an "Anglophile" and lives in London. She had hoped to join Robbie Williams, Oasis star Noel Gallagher, Coldplay and The Darkness to re-record the hit Do They Know It's Christmas?   Madonna, 46, who is married to British film director Guy Ritchie, also missed out on the original 1984 Band Aid appeal to raise cash for starving kids in Afric

More than 72,000 copies of the new Band Aid single were sold on its first day of release, according to sales figures. A Band Aid spokesman said they were "very, very happy" with Monday's demand, which saw shops open early.   That makes it the fastest-selling single of the year so far, shifting more copies than the rest of the top 30 combined, according to HMV. Dido, Robbie Williams and Chris Martin are on the new single, which is raising money to fight hunger in Africa.   Estimates of how many

CHris Martin's bandmates get jealous of all the attention he receives - until they see all the negative implications of being in the limelight.   Chris became a prime target for paparazzi photographers and tabloid gossip columns when he embarked on a high profile relationship with Hollywood leading lady Gwyneth Paltrow. Guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion are annoyed by the assumption that Martin is the band's sole creative force, but they remain content to h

So. Is Gwyneth Paltrow's hubby a big meany, or merely a sarcastic brat? You decide - but we'll offer a little help from a friendly journalist who recently encountered the wit and wrath of Chris Martin.   The Coldplay frontman, married to Paltrow since 2003, was in Brazil recently and left journalists worrying about his wife.   "Gwyneth Paltrow must suffer," was the startling pronouncement of one writer, in a comment to msnbc.com's The Scoop. "Chris Martin, her husband, isn't one of the nicest p

BBC admits 'unfair' Coldplay promotion   The BBC has admitted that it made mistakes in its coverage of a Coldplay tour in 2009 and the launch of U2’s last album No Line on the Horizon. UK commercial radio body RadioCentre complained to the BBC at the time that its coverage of the Coldplay tour and the U2 album launch amounted to undue prominence for commercial products or organisations, and that several specific items (including the Radio 1 presents Coldplay website and the on-screen graphic "U2

The BBC has been criticised for its promotion of U2 and Coldplay in recent months, it has emerged. Commercial radio body RadioCentre accused the corporation of giving undue prominence to the bands' work in broadcasts and online.   The organisation has also taken issue with the use of the Radio 1 logo to promote Coldplay's Viva La Vida tour. It argued that the BBC should spend its funds on up-and-coming artists, rather than larger established acts, The Daily Telegraph reports. RadioCentre chief e

Though no arrangements have been confirmed, the frontman explained that Coldplay are trying to book a show at the site. In a new interview with Brazilian television network Globo, Chris Martin said that he’s hoping for a December 2010 release for Coldplay’s fifth studio album. He might want to check in with EMI, however, before making such statements again and causing fans to start joyously singing like Roman cavalry choirs—because the label seems to have a differing opinion on when the record will drop, Idolator are reporting today. More discussion on this latest LP5 development is at the Coldplay forum now.
