David Doublit’s photography was used for the cover, and the EP really spurred us on to make a full-length record. GB   You can discuss this star here onwards.

The World Cup has lessons for everyone (apart from the key tip that cynical diving can gain a result). Twenty to 30 years ago there was a handful of elite teams, a slightly larger second tier who could occasionally trouble them and a large swathe of enthusiastic but outclassed performers who made up the numbers and dreamt.   These days the largest group is the second-tier where, thanks to the globalisation of skills and opportunities, most of them can regularly match it with the elite, push them

Check out the 2001 section of Coldplay.com for a new star.   First Gig in NYC - 16th Feb. 2001 "Chris had a sore throat, but because it was our first gig in New York we didn't want to cancel. Two songs in Chris had completely lost his voice and we had to get someone from the audience onstage to sing Yellow. After that we had to give up and leave the stage." Tempers have been known to fray when the balloons haven't been blown up enough. It's very important to get balloon pressure correct." GB   More on this here [thanks ColdplayBirdsFly]

Check out the 2000 section of Coldplay.com for a new star.   First Headline Tour - 2.10.07 We started this tour in Cambridge. Playing in what felt like massive venues, on our own was an amazing feeling. Some of the places, we’d played on the NME tour, some of the venues were the ‘bigger brother’ of ones we’d played in the past [Wolverhampton: Little Civic / Wulfun Hall.] Amazing! Check out the 2005 section of Coldplay.com for a new star.   When Kylie got sick and couldn’t be at Glastonbury, everybody was gutted and so we decided to learn ‘Can’t Get You Out…’ and play it for her. First of all it’s fun to pretend to be Kylie in a song and second of all it goes down better live than all our other songs put together. So, we owe her one! As we also do for Lou Reed at the Isle of Wight, who let us play ‘Perfect Day’. CM   You can discuss this star here [thanks alio]

The Spaced, Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz star snubs Coldplay during their second Residency show on Xfm. “He probably doesn’t like us”, says Chris.   Simon Pegg refused to take Coldplay’s calls as the band attempted to “raise the comedy levels” on their second Residency show last night. Chris Martin, Johnny Buckland and Guy Berryman tried calling the Brit star as one of the band’s own jokes – something about two Nuns and a bar of soap - fell flat.   Musing on why Pegg didn’t pick up, Chris said

Second London show starts dramatically   Arcade Fire continued their week of intimate London gigs with their second show at St John’s Church tonight (January 30) and were watched by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.   As previously reported, the band kicked off a week of gigs to showcase new album ‘Neon Bible’ last night (29). Beginning the show right in the middle of the sold out audience, the band performed ‘Wake Up’ without amplification to give the show a unique start.   Moving to the main sta

Check out the 2001 section of Coldplay.com for a new star.   Bottling at WHFS - 28 May 2001 We had only been in America for a few days and we were playing these massive radio festivals. Most of the crowd were there for Aerosmith, Staind and Korn so they weren't so into the Coldplay thing and we spent most of our 15 minutes on stage in Washington avoiding bottles and CDs and other well aimed missiles. Phoenix FM ran a number of top 20 shows in 2005 and broadcast the most popular ones on the internet. They are running more polls this year, with the most popular ones having another show on the station in the coming months.   As last year, some of the most popular polls will be counted down in a special radio broadcast, streamed live, by Phoenix FM in the summer of 2006. The Coldplay poll promises to be the biggest poll undertaken yet.   To select your 10 Coldplay songs, visit http://www.redpeng

Coldplay are featured three times in an British music poll.   Oxford rock band Radiohead have seen their 1997 masterpiece OK Computer voted the third best British album. Britpop veterans Oasis have demonstrated their place in music lovers’ hearts by securing first and second places in the new chart.   The Gallagher brothers’ 1994 debut, Definitely Maybe, came top in the poll by music magazine Q and retailer HMV to find the 50 “Best Ever British Albums”.   Read the full list here

They may be megastars, but it seems those lads from Coldplay really are just Mr Nice Guys.   Excited fan Angie Paspaliaris waited outside the Adelaide Entertainment Centre until 12.15-ish yesterday, when the fellas made their not-so-hasty exit.   Apparently Chris Martin, right, came out and chatted, signing autographs for about 10 minutes. "He took the time to make sure everyone got what they wanted, all the time being humble and saying thank you to us," Angie says."He is left-handed, and one g
