Coldplay will certainly have the number one album in both the US and Australia next week. In both cases, it will be by miles in front.   First day figures out of the US suggest that 'Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends' is good for maybe 700,000 sales in the US over the next week. In Australia, the album is tracking to sell around 30,000 units.   The US sales come off the back of the record-breaking week for Lil Wayne, who sold more than 1 million units this week. In Australia, this week's

Coldplay may have to settle for only a week at number one on the UK singles chart with Ne-Yo gearing up to take their place.   Early sales figures suggest the Def Jam/Mercury track Closer will overtake Coldplay’s Viva La Vida this weekend with the Parlophone track currently around 2,000 sales behind Ne-Yo. A close-run battle elsewhere in the top five has Columbia’s Sara Bareilles, Def Jam/Mercury’s Rihanna and Jive/RCA’s Chris Brown presently separated by little more than 200 sales at this stage

London - Their latest album may have topped charts around the world, but British rockers Coldplay were expected to lose out to less celebrated rivals on Tuesday in the race for their home country's most prestigious music award.   Kaiser Chiefs are tipped as hot favourites to win the Mercury Prize for their debut album Employment, while Coldplay's X and Y is seen by bookmakers as a 16-1 outside shot.   The prize - for the best album by a British act that year - carries a £20 000 cheque, but mor

The Coldplay Messenger recently opened up a competition in which a signed Grammy 'thing' would be used as the prize. Well now that prize has been revealed, and it's definately unique. Here's Anchorman with more details:   Those of you signed up to receive the Coldplay Messenger email newsletter might remember that in last week's issue (No. 11, Vol. 1) we had a competition to win an unspecified "signed thing from the Grammys". Well, we're very pleased to announce that the thing in question is the

Michael Eavis has been dropping more clues as to who'll be playing Glastonbury, with it now looking very likely that Jay Z could be headlining.   Two bands who definitely won't be playing are Radiohead and Coldplay, who both ruled themselves out following enquiries by Glastonbury's organisers.   Eavis told BBC 6Music: “For one thing, the bands aren’t available. Radiohead are doing their own thing and Coldplay aren’t around this year either. All other regular headliners, they just weren’t there b

The Fratellis have spoken for the first time about a technical hitch that threw production of their second album into disarray.   The rockers’ second opus Here We Stand was due to hit shops last week but has been delayed until June after their mixer bailed out. Frontman Jon Fratelli explained: “The guy cried off the day before he was due to start. I was devastated. You just want to give up. He hadn’t finished the Coldplay album but, as much as I like them, I thought that was a rubbish reason.”

Currently working in George Martin's Air Studios in London, the group is once again using the production skills of Ken Nelson. Roger Daltrey, Coldplay and Charlie Gillett were among the stars to pick up awards at the 22nd Radio Academy Awards.   The Neilsen Music Control Award for the Most Played Artist on UK Radio went to Coldplay. The band became only the fourth act to win the award since it was set up in 1999, joining the likes of Robbie Williams, Kylie and Jamelia. Coldplay’s third album X&Y has recently been named the best-selling album of 2005, ahead of Mariah Carey’s The Emancipation of Mimi and rapper 50 Cen

Coldplay have set up their own auction website so fans who are left ticketless don't have to be "ripped off" buying online.   The group say that whenever they announce tour dates, "an enormous amount" end up being sold on via auction websites, and in some cases, "scalper sites". To combat this, the band are auctioning off some tickets for their forthcoming North American dates, with some of the money being donated to charity.   A statement on the band's official website reads: "Whenever we put

Coldplay rose one spot to number six on the US Billboard 200 charts, selling 55,000 copies of “Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends" - all the more amazing considering this is a 21 percent sales loss.   In France, Coldplay are still number one with the new album, despite pressure fromFrench first lady Carla Bruni who sold more than 300,000 copies in France and abroad since hitting the shelves a month ago, with new album "Comme si de rien n'etait" (Simply).   Meanwhile, The Jonas Brothers ar

"Who needs a record company?" That's what essentially what Thom Yorke and his fellow members of Radiohead said last year when they released their path-breaking new album "In Rainbows" on their own after bidding adieu to EMI, the band's longtime record company.   Now another revolt is brewing at EMI. The Times of London reports that EMI recording artist Robbie Williams is withholding his next album to protest cost-cutting by Terra Firma, the British private equity group that bought the London-ba

Coldplay’s undying popularity certainly has paid off for the band, and we’re not talking the contentment that comes with success, we’re talking the truck loads of cash kind of success.   Chris Martin and his gang have taken out the number one spot on OK! Magazine’s 2005 rich list, and have beat out some of the world’s biggest acts in the cash-earning stakes. The band have reportedly earned a whopping £37 million throughout their career’s entirety making them richer than U2 and their lousy £35 mi

With a little over two years since their last visit to South America, Chilean media sources, namely POTQ.cl today are at it again - predicting that Coldplay will return to play there in November, around the same time as the Killers.   Whilst a Coldplay Latin America tour for 2009 has yet to be confirmed, The Killers’ frontman Brandon Flowers recently revealed back in February that he was planning to reform the Coldplay/Killers supergroup that wowed the crowd at February's War Child gig. He said
