Track transitions from stomping guitar chords to hushed vocals, indicating the rest of the album's atmospheric sound... (report MTV)   By the time Tuesday morning (April 29) rolls around, you're going to know what we're talking about. That's when Coldplay will post "Violet Hill" — the first single from their upcoming Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends album — on their official Web site for free download. (It's scheduled to happen at exactly 7:15 a.m. ET, FYI.) The move is rare for a band

As previously reported, the first new-look singles chart is due to be revealed - with "golden oldies" tipped to make a comeback.   Under new chart rules which came into force this week, any song available as an internet download is eligible for the chart regardless of when it was released. Previously, songs could only be included if a physical copy of the single was also available in the shops. So Snow Patrol's Chasing Cars - released back in July - is expected to feature in this week's top 10.

Sting was back on stage today with his former bandmates from The Police as they entertained the audience at the 49th Grammy Awards.   The newly-reformed group kicked off the US ceremony with their classic hit Roxanne.   Sting, who had even copied his blonde spiked hair from the band’s heyday, drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers split in 1984 and despite remaining friends have only performed together a couple of times since. Later today they are expected to announce plans for a co

The world's biggest band Coldplay have been snubbed in the Mercury Music Awards. Instead, the nomination headlines go to Estelle, Adele and Radiohead.   They are all up for the gong, which celebrates British and Irish music. "This turns out to be a remarkably rich year for British music," says Simon Frith, Chair of Judges. "What is most striking is the continued resilience and flexibility of the album as a way of organising music-making. It remains an unrivalled source of musical invention and i

Coldplay and Madonna have been snubbed by MTV in their search for the Greatest Album Ever. Voting to find the top 10 albums since MTV was launched in 1981 will start this week across the network's three UK channels - MTV2, VH1 and MTV Base.   An MTV insider has revealed Coldplay - who recently lost out at the BRIT Awards, winning none of the four categories they were nominated in - will not be included on the shortlist, and neither will Madonna, whose first album, was released in 1982. The short

Coldplay will snub Adelaide on its 2009 tour as they announced it will tour Australia in February and March of next year. South Australian fans will instead have to pay for flights to one of the band's performances in Perth, Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne.   But a spokeswoman for touring company Chugg Entertainment said there were no plans to add Adelaide to the Coldplay schedule at a later date. That was despite the band playing at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on their 2006 tour.   "We were

The latest piece of news in EMI's much-publicized struggle against corporate takeover is perhaps the most ominous development yet.   According to various sources, EMI is currently in talks to license its back catalogue to competing labels. This means that the rights to artists such as the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Queen and Coldplay could soon belong to another record company. In other words, this is like that point near to the end of a Monopoly game when you start mortgaging all of your properties

The CD price war hotted up yesterday as ASDA slashed prices of top-selling albums. The supermarket giants have cut the price of chart-topping releases to a record low of £7.47 online.   The move coincides with the release next Monday of the new album by Coldplay, X&Y. Tesco sparked the price battle last year when they began selling top-selling music and films without VAT. Using a legal loophole, the store set up a distribution firm in Jersey and began selling CDs for £8.99 online including d

Coldplay duo, Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland have spoken out over the media reports of a split.   Since the infamous Zane Lowe interview, at the end of 2014, where the band's frontman announced 'A Head Full Of Dreams' as the title of Coldplay's seventh record (much to the annoyance of his fellow band mates), many media outlets decided to read into Chris' quote (below) as the band breaking up after LP7.   "It's our seventh thing and the way we look at it is like the last Harry Potter book o

Coldplay have hit out at claims they're to split   Speaking from the stage at last night's Brit Awards singer Chris Martin hinted the band would move out of the public eye once the promotion for current album 'X&Y' was complete.   "People are fed up with us and so are we," he said. "You won't see us at one of these for many, many years. We mean it."   However, the band's label have hit back at reports that this means the band are splitting up. A spokesperson told NME.COM: "Coldplay are no

According to u2log.com, fans at the first of four Chicago U2 gigs in May got an extra treat as many reported that Coldplay was among them in the ellipse.   Bono made an extra point of welcoming Coldplay and thanked them for being there. Edge had pulled out a piano as some of the crowd thought Chris may come out for a little ditty or two.   More details to follow as and when they arrive...

He seemed to dig it but left fairly promptly at the end, I presume to avoid getting mobbed - people had started to notice him. Anyone know if he is a fan? I kinda like th

More questions answered by The Oracle...   September 30, 2008 - submitted by Mauricio, El Salvador Q. Dear Oracle: a week ago, on Monday 22, my mother visited Machu Pichu, in Peru, and when she returned she told me: "I saw Chris Martin in Machu Pichu", and obviously I think: "Mmmm... i will ask to Oracle". Has he gone there or she saw someone like him? The Oracle replies: I know our website only shows current and pending tour dates but I can assure you the band have been on the road for a while

Coldplay and the Game Of Thrones cast, which included the likes of Peter Dinklage and Kit Harington teamed up for Red Nose Day this year, as part of a comedy sketch, which brought delighted fans plenty of laughter! Standout moments included Chris Martin's moment of delight in meeting Jon Snow and Chris' confusion with Targaryens, calling them 'Kardashians' instead, before being corrected by drummer, Will Champion, who was pictured in fancy dress and didn't look out of place at all!   Coldplay u

Chris Martin calls the rapper the best musician on the planet...   Coldplay front man Chris Martin has defended rap star Jay-Z's scheduled appearance at Glastonbury. The choice of Jay-Z as the headliner for the festival has been much criticised - something Martin describes as "embarrassing". Speaking on BBC Radio 1, Martin who has previously worked with Jay-Z said that Coldplay didn't need to headline the festival because Jay-Z was "the best musician on the planet".   "I find it pretty embarrass

The happy holidays in the Hamptons go on. As regular readers will know, most of New York’s elite are perfecting their tans at the exclusive Long Island resort, while the rest of us sweat it out in the heat and fumes of the Big Apple.   It was bucket and spade time for new mum and dad Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, who stayed at the exclusive resort in a cottage belonging to film director Steven Spielberg last week. But duty called for Martin, who made a few trips from the beach to a New York

The British music industry grew by almost 5% last year as the popularity of live acts offset the decline in recorded music. PRS for Music (previously the Performing Rights Society), which collects royalty payments and distributes them to artists and composers, said the size of the UK music industry increased by 4.7% to £3.6 billion in 2008, reports the London Evening Standard.   The recorded music sector shrank by 6% last year under pressure from piracy and the sharing of digital music, accordin

Coldplay entered a London studio on Tuesday to begin work on their third album, the follow-up to the triple-platinum A Rush of Blood to the Head. The band is again working with producer Ken Nelson, who helmed both Rush of Blood and the 2000 debut, Parachutes...Nelson, frontman Chris Martin and guitarist Jon Buckland recorded demos for the album last fall in Chicago. In addition, the band cut a cover of the Pretenders' Christmas-themed "2,000 Miles" last year in New York. The song was available f
