Yea, Jonny used a normal RAT pedal in the early days so it's expected that it gets his tone if not gets close to it. I actually (in my opinion) get extremely close to his tone. I'm not sure if it's exact, I don't want to say since I'd rather it be judge by others. But it's that soft overdrive he uses on Viva La Vida, ETIAW, Cemeteries of London, Speed of Sound, etc. I just need to get a Big Sky and an expression pedal and I'll be set (I think). I'll post some riffs soon and see what I get. I should listen to Fun, I love Jonny's huge ambient tones.

Honestly I think the version without the capo is easier (Jonny usually uses a capo at the 12th fret for live performances of this song). Here's what you'll do: First off, put your pinky at the 17th fret of the high e, and put your index on the 12th fret of the same string. Pick the string and then pull of your pinky. Do this twice. Then get your middle finger and place it on the 15th fret of the b string and pick the string. Then use your pinky to hammer on to the 17th fret of the b string. Then remove your pinky (so your middle on the 15th of the b should be left), and pick again, then slide down to the 13th fret of the b string with your middle finger. Then finally, fret the 14th fret of the g string with your ring finger. Pick the string, then fret the 12th fret of the g string with your index finger. Then fret the 14th fret of the g again using your ring finger, then pull off your ring finger until the index finger remains (on the 12th fret). It's essentially this: s=slide, h=hammer on p=pull off High e string: 17p12-17p12 B string: 15h17-15s13 G string: 14p12-14p12 For the second part of the riff, simply change the notes you fret on the high e string, like so: 15p12-15p12 (then continue with the rest of the riff like normal) Your picking should sort of follow this pattern: Pick-pick, pick-pick, pick-pick There should only be two picks per string since you are using hammer ons, pull offs, and slides to play it. Yes, this is correct! Jonny also does this during the opening chords of Lovers in Japan. A Big Sky could probably emulate this sound on the bloom setting. The bloom would emulate the amount of time it takes for the expression pedal to gradually increase the reverb amount.

So I've correctly tabbed out the guitar part for 42 and even have an all F tuned guitar (just like Jonny's) which I just received yesterday. I know Jonny uses a Micro POG throughout all of his parts, and turns on some distortion during the later parts of the song. However, one thing comes to mind. How does Jonny get that clean tone in his first riff? It sounds like it's not completely clean (except the Micro POG pedal). Perhaps the guitar signal is boosted? I don't know. I need your help, guys!
