Hmmm, then yes maybe I will send him a message! Yeah, I just would love to see the band, damnit, and I think an answer is something that we could all appreciate. I totally get that it would be difficult, and I don't care if he says "maybe not for a few years" because hey, that's alright. I accept that. But it's more.... what the reason is, or something like that? Anyhoo WHOO 400!!!!

That's a first... :stunned: Since when have they gotten NICE? :laugh4: awwww just went and read Drew's messages, he's so sweet. I really kind of want to ask him if they ever thought of coming over here. Obviously not saying soon or anything, just if I had that to look forward to, or had SOME hope, that'd be cool. I'd like to know the circumstances with Peter's drug problems and convictions... I don't want him to think I'm being forceful, though, or obnoxious, because I'm not. Just would love to know...

Yeah, I mean I've read tons of reviews on the album and it always seems to come across that way. I wanted to mention the Libertines, obviously, because I feel as though an artists history is incredibly important to their current music that's released.... but I didn't want the main focus of the interview to be that. A lot of times that's the vibe I get that people feel as though they ARE the new Libertines. And yes, they make music that I think could possibly stand up to it, (like, what I meant, music that could have made it on a Libs album) and music that stands up to all the new Libs copycats out there. ;) I really had to mention the fact that they are a seperate band, though, and all members should get their due time. Glad you like :) I'll have to read those Drew messages when I come home from school ;) but the first one already makes me go AWWWW omg omg omg

Well, I reviewed 'Waterloo To Anywhere' for my journalism class... here's what I came up with... Hope it doesn't sound like I was taking a stab at Doherty or the Libertines, because I seriously wasn't. I was just trying to make the case that people should stop ignoring Carl! :laugh4: ;) It would be easy to jump to the conclusion that Carl Barât's lyrics throughout 'Waterloo To Anywhere' are taking a stab at his old bandmate, Pete Doherty. Actually, it would be extremely easy to make this entire review about Doherty, as the Libertines seemed to become to the press in the end. Barât's new band, Dirty Pretty Things, may not have the super model girlfriends hanging around after shows, may not have the drug charges and canceled shows. But they do have a sound that could stand up against anything the Libertines put out in their day. In a world where there are a thousand new copycats a day, Barât's similiar sound actually has a credibility, without sounding forced. From the begining it is rough and under-produced, with strong reminders of Arctic Monkeys' debut coming to mind. Like Turner, Barât's lyrics document the many drunken brawls on English streets. Yet Barât is more universal. He sings of a disenchantment with himself and society, with lyrics on the cusp of being political. The chorus to 'Gin & Milk' demonstrates this, "No one gives two fucks about the values I would kill for/Give them something to die for/Give me something to die for". This is a sentiment that anyone can relate to at some point in their life. This instant identification with his words is Barât's genius. He speaks for all of us, even when he speaks of himself. Ex-Libertine Gary Powell joins Barât once again on drums. With former Cooper Temple Clause member Didz Hammond on bass, the rhythm section is tight and powerful. Barât takes lead guitar along with Anthony Rossomando, the two of them bouncing off each other, creating an interesting sense of controlled chaos. Rossomando also takes on the trumpet, playing a brilliant lead-in to the song 'Bang Bang You're Dead', a song that boasts a chorus so addicting you'll find yourself humming it days later. Dirty Pretty Things are more than just Carl Barât's new band. They're more than just the 'New Libertines'. They are a band full of four seperate and highly talented personalities. Barât was always overshadowed by his troubled co-frontman Doherty, with his escapist and poetry laden lyrics. Yet Barât is more real. He is someone that you can look up to and follow without worry. From it's clutter-filled begining to an ending that slowly descends into mania, Dirty Pretty Things have a winner.
