I find very interesting the discussion about how possibly Zero theory lead to X&Y, but if you put in the mix accusations of pdf and animal porn, I get absolutely lost, sorry.

I don´t think so, the idea of the final album doesn´t match at all with a tour like MOTS, and we know for sure the tour will go on next year. If the musical is not ready, then I guess they will release an EP or whatever.

And I just gave you the example of People of the Pride, that comes from the VLV sessions. They rework the songs, change lyrics (or not), but it´s not strange at all. It´s very naive to think that all the songs in an album have been created the previous two years.

Actually, it´s very common, they have something that didn´t fit on that album, or couldn´t get right, and they could go back to that track and rework it till they´re sure about it. People of the Pride is a great example, and lots of bands do the same thing.

And the feedback was not, in fact, better? It didn´t have supercommercial singles like "Higher power" or "My Universe" ("My Pray" is the closest, and I think "Good Feelings" didn´t have the push it needed) but I sensed a much better opinion towards MM.

Right now, Coldplay is not a concert anymore, is an event. Thousands of people, thousands of not-fans-at-all, will be there if the concert is next to where they live, because the feeling inside and the picture on their TT or Instagram looks and feels so good. I don´t know if that will change on the next tour once they finish this MOTS, but a big % of people that paid a ticket on 2024 (including me) did not attend because of We Pray or All my love.

I don´t remember an alternative version of Speed of Sound leaked, but I do remember the one for Talk, which was imo a far better song than the final one (but the final one was less...classic, that´s why I guess they chose it).

I think that´s the most likely scenario. But I´m not entirely sure about the album, maybe an EP or 2-3 new songs... They have gone through Moon Music promotion repeating how much it costs for them to record an album again and again, and a year later they deliver a new one? Too good to be true... I hope I´m wrong.

We agree then. It´s funny, I don´t remember back in 2008 feeling that sense of criticism towards VLV, almost the opposite (in general, you´ll never be liked by everyone).

Of course you´re right about this, although I think we "should" stop pointing at Rainbow as a great song because it isn´t a song but a mix of ten of them. If we mix The Scientist, Clocks, Coloratura and Everyday Life the result would be amazing, but that would not be a song netiher😂 Here is where I disagree, I mean... High five to the idea of "accept you are never gonna be liked by everybody, so just do whatever you fucking want, change into whatever you want to be at anytime". But if that means abandoning riffs, embracing simple pop, and writing the laziest lyrics Martin has ever written, then we´re talking about something else. Of course it worked! But my goal as a fan and listener is not to be the fan of the biggest selling band of the world. Even when I defend that artists must do whatever they want and not guide themselves by currents or commercial tricks, I also can have an opinion about what they choose to publish. I don´t think we disagree too much, actually.

I agree, and 2000´s Coldplay would have never put puppets on stage and deliver something like "My Universe". OF COURSE THEY DON´T. The melody, the sweetness and darkness, the lyrics (I´m talking in general, not specifically on those two tracks) are far away from POTP (a song I really love, but nothing more than Coldplay imitating a heavy band for fun) or🌈 which is made of really beautiful parts of songs. Which is the same as them saying they have something different from the rest of what they´ve done, or any other meaningless quotes we can remember. I agree on something, which is that Coldplay will always put on every album two or three great songs, because Martin´s ability for melodies is out of the question. But the effortless lyrics from these days and the path from rock to pop is out of the question (in my opinion, at least) too, and it´s ok, I don´t ask any of my favourite bands to keep doing the same songs over and over again. But it is what it is. And it´s exactly because of the road to pop and collaborations with BTS, Beyoncé, Rihanna..., their amazing concerts as a human example of human union and collective enjoyment directly shared on tickTock and Instagram. Which is fine, but the reason is not (or not completely) their singles and albums of this last five years.

As far as I know there has never been released any studio version of the song. It´s one my band favorites.

Thanks for the extensive answer. I miss those days when the singles came in companion with b-sides, not four remixes of We Pray or live versions. Not only with Coldplay, but with other artists I like as well… Good old days I guess.
