do u remember the first time you saw/heard coldplay?
that would be the Yellow video, either on MTV or VH1, right when it came out (2000 ~ 2001). first time i actually payed attention to Coldplay was when they performed at the Grammys for the first time (which was, what, '02?)

Newbie's Got a Few Questions
thanks! :) i will definitely listen to those shows! four twenty is the weed smokers holiday 'round these parts. As far as i can tell it's celebrated throughout north america . . or at least in urban and suburban north america . . i can't speak for the middle america/ rural crowd . . i'm not sure they smoke anyways here's a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/420_%28cannabis_culture%29 :dozey: this guy knows what i'm talkin' about  that's right! It's also Hitler's birthday! Although no one seems to know exactly why 4/20 is what it is (the wikipedia article i posted above is promoting the San Rafael HS theory, which i've heard before, but seems kinda lame to be the actual beginning of such a widespread and fantastic holiday), the Hitler's birthday origin story is one of the most popular . . i must have heard it 10 or 12 times in college . . something along the lines of poetic irony; getting happy, happy with your friends and loved ones on the birthday of such a bad, bad man. I don't think that had anything to do with the actual origin of the celebration, but it's one of the "fun facts" about 4/20 that everyone seems to know. Bottom line? It may sound silly and juvenile, but it's really all about love and friendship, and having a good good time with the people you care about. I've never seen anything rambunctious or negative go down on 4/20 . . and it's usually a good day to find small hippie gatherings and music festivals in your local park, which is a bonus. Always a good time :) Next April the 20th stick your hand on your ear and your nose in the air and follow the sound of lighters lighting, stoners guffawing, and the sweet skunky aroma of bliss . . and don't forget to bring snacks (and rolling papers)! also, thanks for the welcome! Man, it seems like people are pretty friendly around here, no? I'm sensing a lot of positivity from this community, and i like it. I joined because i like Coldplay's music a bunch and i don't have anyone to talk about it with, and i'm starting to be really glad that i did! cheers!

besides the Tarantino soundtracks, which are all fantastic, i'd say my favorite is probably Grosse Point Blank.

MTV SUCKS
mtv does indeed suck. it's a shame really, 'cause they used to play these things called music videos, which ranged from mind-numbingly stupid (yet still more-than-occasionally sexy) to actually quite entertaining. Yeah, . . they don't do that anymore.:( good thing there's thousands of free music videos on the internet!:)

Newbie's Got a Few Questions
thanks for the info and the welcome! Darker and no piano eh? sounds good to me. :) and sorry it took me a few days to check back up on my own thread by the way. it's been a bit hectic lately, but i assure you all that i'm most certainly paying attention! thank you for the thoughtful reply! I'll definitely check out those B-sides, and i think i'll sniff around for the Blue Room EP as well . . sounds interesting. wow erin, thank you, sincerely, for the response. I can't say i'm too happy to find out that Timberland's on the album, but hopefully he'll only do one track or so, eh? Your info has helped me immensely. Again, thank you! So, despite these wonderful answers from my fellow north americans, which have been quite helpful and informative, i feel I have to try once more to garner a response from the "old country". Hey! UK! Is there anybody out there? A) What do you guys think about my querys? Is there a "must have" or essential show you could recommend other than Live 2003? - and - B) is 4/20 celebrated in Europe? My curiosity is insatiable in this matter. I simply must know!:wink3:

Good Anime Serieses
big :thumbsup on those. I'm an absolutely huge fan of Miyazaki's. I've seen nearly all his films and loved every one. No one's mentioned the two best anime series' of all time yet? Damn! Far and away people, no contest: Cowboy Bebop Samurai Champloo if we're talkin' films, i'd say Ninja Scrolls is the best feature length anime ever . . and, again, i'd say it's no contest at all

Newbie's Got a Few Questions
forgive me if this isn't thread-worthy, but as i'm new this site and have never before gotten a chance to discuss Coldplay with anyone (none of my friends or family listen to them), i have a few questions to ask of you, their dedicated and knowledgeable fanbase. I'll try to keep it short and to the point: *Other than the three albums, which i love and have listened to many times, how much material is there out by the band in the way of unreleased songs? *How might i get my hands (and ears) on these unreleased tracks, and are any of them worth listening to (ie. are they of similar musical quality to the stuff on the albums, or are they rough, unfinished and kind of meh) *Having never listened to a Coldplay concert or live recording (other than a few scattered clips and their Austin City Limits appearance . .. which was stellar by the way), what should i listen to first? In other words, Is there a concert recording or video of one of their shows that is sort of agreed upon as being Coldplay at their absolute best/ a must have for fans of the band? Would Live 2003 fit this description? *I saw this on wikipedia: "There are four known new songs: "Mining on the Moon", "The Butterfly", "The Fall of Man" and "Bucket for a Crown"" . . are any of these available? *also on wikipedia: "musician and producer Brian Eno revealed that he would be the producer for Coldplay's fourth album" . . how rediculously cool is THAT! brain eno!!! awesome [rhetorical question of course :laugh3: ] *what's the news on the new album in terms of release date or interview clips from the band and whatnot . . any idea what it'll be like as compared to the other 3 albums? *since i've never seen them live, i was wondering: when they play live do they extend or "jam out" their songs at all, or is it pretty much exactly what's on the record? thanks for humouring me, and thanks in advance for your responses! edit: and, as i just realized what day it is, is 420 an international holiday, or is it only celebrated here in the U.S.? i've always wondered that :D

Rate the latest movie you've seen
Stranger Than Fiction - 9.5/10 a cool concept, and a nice Douglas Adams-ish flare to the writing. reminded me a bit of some of my favourite movies, such as Adaptation and The Truman Show. Is it just me or does Dustin Hoffman just keep getting better as he gets older? and what the hell's up with maggie gyllanhall? did she take hottness pills during filming or something? that woman is sexy/adorable

What are you reading right now?
just finished The Thrill of The Grass by W.P. Kinsella (which was very good), and Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis (which was fucking awesome . . i'd recommend it to anyone who considers themselves even a marginal Red Hot Chili Peppers fan) before that (a few weeks ago) i read Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain (again, a great book . . i'd give it maybe a 9 out of 10) i'm just now rereading my all-time favourite novel The Illuminatus Trilogy by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson (despite its girth i reread it every couple of years to reexperiance its mindbending greatness and hilarity), and i will soon be reading the rest of Kurt Vonnegut's novels (out of his 14 novels i've read 9, and thus am looking to complete the collection, both because of his recent passing and becuase he is by far my favourite author of all time): Hocus Pocus, Mother Night, Slapstick, God Bless You Mr Rosewater, and Deadeye Dick. Also, i've never read any Ayn Rand, so i'll probably be checking out The Fountainhead or Atlas Shrugged in the near future. i'm a bit of a reader:laugh3:

PlayStation breaks sales records
i find it fascinating that the PS3 is selling so well in the UK, since it's getting its ass handed to it here in the States by the other two systems. Better marketing? Doctored sales numbers? something's up edit: and no, i won't be getting one.
