So that really was the first time A Whisper has ever been played live? Insane! Worth it just for it and Don't Panic alone. The new songs worked extremely well played all in a row - with how similar of a vein runs through them it really worked well back to back to back as opposed to staggering them throughout the setlist. But yeah, that's crazy A Whisper had never been played before tonight. You'd think back in the AROBTTH days it would have made its way in there somewhere, but then again I heard back then they'd play pretty short shows, around an hour or so.

Best Coldplay Christmas gift?
Hello, My apologies, I hate it when people start threads for one small question but I'm mostly unfamiliar with this board. Anyway, my mom loves Coldplay and I want to get her a Coldplay-related gift for Christmas, but maybe something a little atypical. Any ideas?

Ok, not to sound like an unappreciative jerk but, uh, did Coldplay really just completely ignore Trouble for the 2nd straight L.A. show? Nah............they couldn't have.........that'd be like U2 not playing Where the Streets Have No Name.........the song that they owe a huge part of their early popularity and fame to..........nah.......that's crazy. I must have passed out for 5 minutes or so when they were playing it and that's why I don't remember it, right?

Life in Technicolor II - big time MEH
"Life in Technicolor II" sounds waaaaaaay too much like "Lovers in Japan", especially in the chorus. It's practically the same song. Kudos to Chris Martin and the fellas for re-hashing a tune and packaging it and selling it to all the starry-eyed fanboys who will lap up anything the band puts out, no matter how poor it is. FAIL.

Anaheim, CA???
For a band like Coldplay, Anaheim = Honda Center (formerly Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim). What's highly unlikely but would be amazing is if instead of 1 huge Honda Center show they'd play a 5-night stand at the House of Blues in Anaheim. Probably about the same number of people would get to go, if not more. Way smaller venue, much more intimate. Obviously, this wouldn't fit their schedule, but one can only hope right?

17-Jul-08 - KROQ show at Jessica's house
Wow Here's the songs I would pick if I could pick any 6: 1. Warning Sign 2. Sparks 3. Green Eyes 4. Trouble (since I didn't hear it on Tuesday :( ) 5. The Scientist 6. Shiver Not sure whether it'd be cool to force them to play Shiver since they apparently don't like playing it live or whatever, but it's such a fantastic song...

17-Jul-08 - KROQ show at Jessica's house
So 1 lucky winner from a KROQ radio contest in Los Angeles got to have Coldplay perform at their house, which was last night (Thursday, July 17th) at a girl named Jessica's house in West Hills, CA. Does anyone have any idea what their setlist was last night? I know it's a shot in the dark, just curious... Check out http://www.kroq.com for pics from the show.

Exactly. Coldplay's not my favorite band, but AROBTTH is one of my all-time favorite albums. Not even a mediocre song on the entire thing. They're definitely ONE of the best bands going right now at least. And I completely disagree with what someone said earlier about how this forum is "not to criticize Coldplay, but to worship them." I lurk around on various other bands' message boards as well, and some of the best threads/discussions are ones where people share what they think could be improved upon, and voice their displeasure when something doesn't meet their high standards. My being objective about the show results from: a. paid $85 for only 90 minutes. $85x18,000 seats = roughly 1.5 million bucks. I know that doesn't all go to the band, but please - give us another half hour. b. all of the backing tracks used. Viva La Vida might as well have been Viva La Karaoke. Same with most of the other songs from the new album. If you're the biggest band on the planet, you can afford to hire a touring orchestra. That, or don't play those songs live. c. all but complete disregard for Parachutes. that could have been solved with the extra half hour I mentioned above.

No, they are a great band. I'm merely suggesting all this Brian Eno orchestra extremely overproduced sound stuff from the new album might have been a misstep...

You're more observant than most! Literally 1/2 that show was pre-recorded instruments or background vocals and Chris jumping around like a monkey. A talented band doesn't need backing tracks to play along with. :embarassed:

Part of what I meant by the band's output also relates to the number of "piped-in" tracks and instruments included in the songs that band members weren't actually playing. That's what was so great about Coldplay's 1st two albums, they were so natural and musically simple. Now, you've got a violin track that starts of Viva, Chris didn't even play the organ in Lost, and during Lovers in Japan he played the intro and fully got up and danced around with the piano still somehow playing! I purposely didn't read anything about last night or the NYC show, because I wanted tonight to be a total surprise from start to finish. And, I'd heard Coldplay is really shitty when it comes to mixing up their setlists, so I for sure didn't want to spoil anything. But yeah, Daniel, you got me on most of those points. I always say that it's best to go to a concert and just enjoy it, take it in for what it is. If you have 2-3 songs that you HAVE to hear in order for it to be a good show, you'll often be let down. I was definitely a hypocrite in that respect regarding tonight's show!

No. The price did not equal the sum of the band's output is more like it. Tonight's show was a $40, maybe $50 show. Not an $85 show. If I pay $20 for a show and they play for an hour, great! I got what I paid for. But $85, and especially those that paid outrageous amounts for good floor seats, deserves a longer show than 90 minutes.

I actually didn't talk the entire time, and because I was with my lil bro and Coldplay's his favorite band, I didn't say anything negative about the show upon leaving. Saving my venting for now :D So Daniel - talk to me when you've paid good money to see a band like Pearl Jam give you a 2 and a half hour set. THAT'S getting your money's worth. And for half the price. I'm sure you're too young to appreciate a band that old, but still.
