26-Oct-08: East Rutherford, NJ (1st night) - Tickets, Preview, Meetups, Review/Photos
so i just got home about 10 mins ago. NJ Transit really needs to figure out this system because waiting around (both going there and back was hell). its ok - i missed part of duffys set and wasnt too terribly disappointed. talked with a guy from oxfam for a bit who was quite nice. we discussed the merits of CMJ and volunteering at other oxfam shows. went down to find my seat and wasnt too disappointed. floor seats section 6, i think. i kinda knew what to expect and had on platforms. i felt sorry for the kid behind me, but we were on the aisle and he must have only been 5, so not much i could do. around 9:10 or so gwyneth came in and all i saw were flash bulbs. it was rather surreal. i cant say i envy her for even a minute with that kind of insanity. from the minute life in technicolor started the crowd started going nuts. i found violet hill an odd choice to be opening with but the song itself is great. it seemed to go by in blur and way too fast because when i looked at my watch and it said 10:20 I nearly cried. the highlights for me were Chinese Sleep Chant (my favorite song off this album) and Strawberry Swing. I was so excited to hear CSC and the guy I was with and I were going nuts. So much jumping around and dancing. Around this time he said to me, I know this is an awesome show because I have goosebumps. It was a good thing this was a Coldplay show or I might have molested him at that very moment. The song was so beautiful, and for whatever reason it always makes me teary eyed. So beautiful. I loved hearing the mix of songs (minus Parachutes songs) and thought it was a great mix. Viva la Vida had the crowd going nuts and it was great to hear everyone singing along. And nothing will ever be more beautiful than Lovers in Japan. The confetti coming down during that song, just added to it, making the whole song just perfect with the butterflies. I was covered in them and have so much confetti its a bit ridiculous. All I can say is that since coming home from Paris, seeing more shows than I thought possible at CMJ and then coming to this - all within a weeks span - it couldnt have been a more perfect way to end it all. It might have been one of the best shows Ive seen this year and after seeing Of Montreal Im not sure I thought it was even possible. Chris sounded better than ever. Im now figuring out if I can find a way to see them tomorrow. The second best part of the show - after having a hard time selling my ticket I found some guy who wanted it. He kept emailing me and was concerned about me forgetting about him while in Paris. But finally we met up on Saturday night and I sold him the ticket. its hard to judge someone on a mere 'hello, heres your money', and I didnt know what to expect. My CL posting only stated that I wanted it to go to a huge fan, but i was desperate so I didnt care much. Turns out - after talking a bit during Duffy and before Coldplay its his favorite band. So he turned out to be the best company and was as excited as I was. We were both jumping around, singing along, taking pics and dancing like lunatics. it didnt hurt that he was adorable and we had so much in common. perhaps a date or something will come of it. So yeah --- one of my best nights in a long, long time! and seeing the delacroix painting in person is surreal!

Of Montreal
So unless my eyes are deceiving me, I cant believe there is not a thread about them. They might be one of the most underrated bands out there. Their new tour has become a total show. Each song has a whole story behind it - with Kevin Barnes starring in it. Hes a great showman, but more importantly, Im sure hes a genius. His ideas are just insane that he comes up with. I guess words cant describe the show but for those who have seen it, they realize they probably wont ever see anything like it. The NYC show had Kevin riding as a king on a horse (yes - a live horse) and his servants putting shoes on his feet. Just imagine if Chris got this into his shows - Oh I should add he was near naked in the tiniest of shorts. He was also covered in 'blood' during one part of the show, which was highly erotic. Some really sexed up parts of the show too. I guess I shouldnt spoil even more for those going to see them soon. The 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' cover had the audience on the brink of insanity. I miss a lot of his older songs, and it seems like aside from "Disconnect the Dots" the earlier stuff is coming off of Hissing Fauna (Shes a Rejector), etc. and one of their final songs with Kevin covered in shaving cream (before going into the crowd and covering all the audience with it) and lots and lots of confetti and glitter and whatever else they were throwing.

Ive not been around in awhile but I have a second ticket for this show (Sunday night) that I *must* sell. Its floor seats and the price is $120 with service charges. A friend was supposed to buy the other as he missed them in Ireland, but turns out now he has to go to India. he's cursed. Id be wiling to negotiate on the price (some), I just need to make something off of this. I am using the other seat - so really I just want a huge Coldplay fan to enjoy it as much as me! Please email me offline at [email protected] as Im headed to Paris in 2 days and wont be checking here much :( And heres to hoping that I win tix for the yahoo taping considering I come back that Wed afternoon thatd be awesome. Perhaps the guys will show up at some of the CMJ shows. NYC will be insane that week! And there is always sightings of so many other bands during CMJ from the small to the way big :)

Electric Touch
Im in love with this band. A pic of Louis and Shane with me. And I've never felt so short in my life. Shane and Ross are beyond friendly and we talked for awhile. Some chick was all over Louis so he was a bit distracted and Chris was outside smoking most the time. But they were all really cool and signed a poster for me, even after I complained that their shirt prices were way too high! :) I think Shane didn't care so much because I told him he was easily one of my two favorite bands at Lollapalooze. Its official - Im in love! - And cant wait to check out your interview. - a few things to note - Toronto was their first show out of the states at Vfest. Also - they never even did a proper tour (as in having to drive around the states for awhile) but immediately got hooked up with The Fratellis. They might be back here for CMJ. And I sound like the total fan girl. and my video for "Give Me A Sign". The sound sucks and I just love their choreographed guitar moves :)

Random Coldplay thoughts...
I was staring in a window today waiting for the owner of the shop to return and fairly oblivious to the fact that he had returned. And next thing I know Im hearing the VLV album. Needless to say I spent a lot of my lunch break in there before he asked me if I finally made up my mind. He was pretty cool and knew I was looking for a gift for my cousin's wedding, so perhaps Coldplay had some sorta influence on what I picked out for her and her husband to be :)

Mixtape Exchange
Ok - Im officially addicted to Magistrates. I found a mixtape (crazyduckettes) randomly and couldnt remember whose it was. Damn theres some great songs on there, but Magistrates really stuck out. Reminds me of a not as quite 70's sounding Scissor Sisters. And Late of the Pier is now everywhere. Its one band that I hear mentioned 24/7 - and now I get to see them at CMJ hopefully.

Sleeping in odd places
i guess the strangest would be on a ferry heading to venice. not so bad that i fell asleep on it - but i passed out on this old woman next to me. and apparently she rubbed my head the entire ride. she later said she pretended that i was her granddaughter which i thought was pretty cute. fell asleep on a guy next to me on an airplane. slept through iron & wine's set at lollapalooza - at least the grass was somewhat comfy. i can sleep most anywhere and have a knack for falling asleep on strangers. it always turns into interesting conversations, and most the people have been good sports about it.

26-Oct-08: East Rutherford, NJ (1st night) - Tickets, Preview, Meetups, Review/Photos
Im quite sure Im going to have an extra ticket to this show. They're pit tix (or whatever its called) but im not sure of row/section. if interested - email me - [email protected] - I think the ticket is over $100. Preferential treatment goes to new yorkers (since we're shafted on a regular basis :( ) so we can go to the show together. i'll be using the other ticket.

Electric Touch
Electric Touch - One of my 2 favorite bands at Lollapalooza and now on tour with The Fratellis. Their single "Love In Our Hearts" is so damn catchy - and their album just came out last week - so its worth checking out. The lead singer from England (london?) and the guys from austin tx are a great combination. Electric (e-lec-tric) - adjective; thrilling, exciting, stirring Touch (tuh-ch) - verb; to affect with feeling or emotion Stick an Englishman in a band with three true blue Texans and you're bound to come up with something pretty damn original. Electric Touch wowed crowds at SXSW, Coachella, Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza and are booked to appear at Monolith, ACL and V festivals. But they're not taking their early successes for granted. At the end of the day, Electric Touch is all about the music: the adrenaline release, that intoxicating feeling that only a killer rock song can give you. "When people come to see us play, we want them to leave their troubles at the door. Their worries will still be there tomorrow, but for right now, let's get together and have a good time." Consider that an invitation. Their video diary from Chicago. Their other one is great too on their way to bonaroo. and their prior video diary
