  1. I am new to this message board, and I am having great difficulty figuring out how to use it - please bare with me. I am an African-American man, and even though it has been very difficult living in this world because of the color of my skin; I have learned to embrace it , and accept the person that I am, and to understand that I had no choice in determining the color of my skin. The fact that Jay-Z used the "N" word in his rap re-mix of "Lost," and that Chris Martin and the band allowed the word to be used in one of their most beautiful songs; I not only find this to be disgusting, but also disappointing. Black men that use the "N" word come across as ignorant and disrespectful to themselves. They seem to forget what the word meant by it's creators, racists, and slave owners of our past. It is an ugly word, and a very violent word too. And for Chris Martin and the band to allow Jay-Z to take full reign to "Lost," and insert an offensive tainted quality to the song; well, this is unforgivable and insulting to me. I hope that this message somehow gets delivered to Chris and the band, and that they understand how I feel, and that they be more careful and attentive in the future, in listening to words that other artists insert in Coldplay songs.
  2. When one takes voice lessons, the objective is to learn how to optimize usage of the voice. During these lessons, the singer is taught a variety of vocal exercises that include scales and breathing; these exercises teach the singer how to sing without causing stress to the vocal chords.
  3. I don't know whether or not Chris Martin takes voice lessons, but I think that he needs to, and I hope that he does. I say this because, as of late he has been having trouble hitting high notes, and his falsetto is weaker than it was several years ago. I only notice this problem when he sings live. Maybe its nerves, or simply just over-use; I think it is important for him to keep his vocal instrument fine tuned, just as a guitarist or pianist does. I like Chris Martin's voice, I just wonder if he's working to maintain it, and keep it polished.
  4. Not Sure What To Say I'm not sure that I understand exactly what is being asked here. Are we to speak of new music to be released in 2009, or recent music released late in 2008? Well, I look forward to the new U2 album, but if the song they performed at the Grammy's is an example of what to expect; well, it makes me feel a bit uncomfortable. At the end of last year, I enjoyed, and still do enjoy Verve's latest. "Rainbows" by Radiohead is brilliant. Augustana put out a pretty good album. I like great singing voices so I think that Leona Lewis and Jennifer Hudson satisfied me greatly. Oh, I must not forget Keane. "Perfect Symmetry" is a movement in the right direction for this band. Cool. The grand prize however, goes to Coldplay's "Viva La Vida."
  5. You Need Her? Sounds as though you now realize that you did not treat her in the most loving way possible. If you are convinced that you have changed, and would like for her to believe it, then enter into a conversation with her asking what it is that she wants, and what you can do in order to make it happen. But it is also important that she allow you to express what it is that you want. If both of you are listening, really listening to each other; then perhaps a healthy compromise can be reached.
  6. I Am Thinking That I'd Like To Speak To Chris Martin I very much admire Coldplay, and believe the group to be one of the most talented and colorful bands around today. "Lost" is one of my favorite songs on the latest album, and I liked the solo piano version of the song performed at the Grammy Awards. I don't mind the Jay-Z rap portion of the song; but I do not like that Jay-Z uses the "N word." I am an African American, and I find the use of the "N word" disrespectful and ignorant, no matter who uses it. I am disappointed that Coldplay allowed this word to be used in one of their songs. I think very highly of all of the band members in Coldplay; and it was disappointing that they lowered themselves by approving the use of a word, that I feel is an expression of ignorance. I hope that they never do this again. If someone on this message board knows of a way to get this message to Chris Martin and the band, I will appreciate it very much.
  7. Desperate Attempt For A New Life of Some Sort There is a similar chord progression at the beginning of the melody, but after that there is no more similarity at all. Since when does any musician own a chord progression? Joe Satriani is of yesterday, and I feel that he is attempting to get a newborn fame, and lots of money from a super successful band. I think it will be very immature for Satriani and his lawyers to interrupt the Grammy Awards with this piece of crap.
