  1. Hi everyone!! My God, didn't think it would leak!! Can someone PM me the link, pleaaaaaaaaaaaase? Thanks :nice:
  2. Hello Tnspieler1012 (sorry I don’t know your name :blank: ) I’m Sofia, your mixtape maker :nice: First of all, I’m really glad you overall enjoyed the tape! As you mentioned, it wasn’t made specifically for you, and if you were my first partner I’d probably have made a few changes, but anyway, no regrets about the songs I put which don’t seem to be what you listen to usually. About the artwork, I’m really happy you noticed and liked it because it’s a detail I enjoy taking care of when I make a tape! So yeah, I took the picture myself during the first evening of a road trip I had in the south of France 2 years ago and it was in a city called St. Raphael (so not the ocean but the Mediterranean Sea), really good memories :wacky: So now… Music! :escaping:
  3. HAHAHAHA!! My guess was right!! First time it happens to me :D When I finished my second listening and my review I just thought "well, this is either Camille or Louise... Yeah, Louise!" :) I'm really honoured to know you were that glad when you knew I was your partner :wacky: Anyway, I'm really happy you were my partner too! It's great you chose to put what YOU like, you did really well. As I said, the flow was awesomely great and, even though I didn't love all the songs the same way, I can't tell there was a song I hated or even disliked :) You have great tastes and I really thank you for letting me discover your musical universe. You did that once and it was such a success (Noah And The Whale... Can't thank you enough  ) so I'm happy it happened once again. Now, a few comments about the songs... I don't know Blur and Graham Coxon very well but I know how much you love them and I think I'll definitely take the time to check out more of them :) And the other night I just watched a Blur gig (in Paris, at Le Bataclan I think) on TV (I thought of you haha) and I think this song was the opener... I may be wrong though, it was really late, but I did enjoy the show ;) I think I'll also check out Jamie T and Portugal. The Man, really like the atmosphere of their tracks! No probs about Villagers, as I said it took me some time to recognize the track, it's a great thing I got to listen to it again :) Haha, I almost said track 9 was Hey! but as I wasn't sure I just didn't mentioned it  Camille gave me some Youtube links to their songs and lives and I really liked their stuff but didn't checked out their work. I think this may be a great opportunity to do so. Yeah, you're right, I'm not really into female vocalists (just remembered our queuing conversation hahaha ;) ) but Camera Obscura's singer is gonna be into my little list I think... Super Furry Animals! I think you told me about them and Gruff Rhys once... Anyway, I heard the name of this band but never checked out their stuff. Huge mistake! And  for the artwork, your picture is great! I do the same delete the artwork of the songs I put in my tapes. Well, I'm done!! Once again, thank you very much!!! Oh God, I'll have so many bands to check out, I don't even know where I'll start... And yeah, I'm SO sorry about my answering delay, I just spent my life at work lately (literally, I'm not kidding)
  4. Well, so here I come to review my tape entitled « Hey Sofia ! Have you heard my mixtape? » I really appreciated this attention, that was very nice from you mixtape maker :nice: And the artwork you created is awesome! It’s a picture taking from the back of a (chinese?) man riding a bicycle through an intense fog. On it I can read an added and colourful inscription : «Summer Sun». This was a great idea and I felt like this mixtape was gonna be full of sense and hidden messages. Did you take this picture yourself? If so you’re also a good photographer ;) Ok, I’m done with so details! Now let’s go for music reviewing :D Track 1 : Oh yes, great jazzy piano beginning… Like it so far! Electric guitar + drums = jazzy rock! Very interesting and original track, becomes faster and faster! Just grabbed me, haha I feel like I’m in an amazing rollercoaster! Wow, it seems like the musicians know what they’re doing! Great opener, seems to tell that this mixtape is going to be eclectic, I may be wrong though… Track 2 : «chu chu chu, chupa chu» on repeat with drums, funny! This female vocalist, is giving a great rhythm. Quite a dark track I’d say. Haha, this girl seems angry! Really like the drums, they’re doing the song imo. And this little riff is great too. This song is okay, maybe a bit repetitive. I’m not really into female vocalists in general (with some excepetions) but it flows really well with the previous track. Track 3 : Wow, big and fast electric guitar in distorsion! A bit afraid at first to be honest, punk rock isn’t really my kind of thing. But I have to admit this song is really well done! It sounds a bit older that it maybe is, don’t know why. And, once again, the transition with the previous track is great! « Give me some looooove!! », haha I like the lyrics! I think I’ll really appreciate this one when I’ll listen to it during daylight! Thanks, I never been really into this kind of music but it’s a great track! Looking forward to know who it is :) Track 4 : Male vocalist, British accent if I’m not mistaken! Reminds me a bit Little Comets’ singer. The bass riff is great, really like it! A well constructed rock song, very dynamic! Once again, a bit «dark» but it may not be the best word to describe it. This song grows on me, I really like it. Ends with some men talking… Yeah they’re definitely British ! Track 5 : « Il est sept heures du matin… Faut s’réveiller… » Hahaha yeah, I don’t remember how is called this French rock song! Really like it though! Shit, I feel ashamed right now hahaha! Anyway, I really like this late 60’s / 70’s sounding. Great choice :) Track 6 : Woot, starting with drums and a great electric guitar! Male vocalist, YAY! Really cool song, one of my fav so far! I don’t think I’ll have anything else to say, I would ruin the song haha! I can’t wait to know who it is  Track 7 : Another great transition! Well done ;) Sounds like an old song, from the late 70’s or early 80’s, but I may be wrong… Good song, maybe repetitive a bit, less original than the previous ones but it works well here anyway. Track 8 : Mmmh begins with an organ, I feel like I know this song, already heard it… But where… I don’t know… Shit, the piano… I had this song in one of my previous mixtape! But I don’t remember the name of the artist :( Okay, I know, that’s really awkward… Anyway, this song is really powerful, with violins, drums, this piano riff on repeat, the guitar on distorsion and this male vocalist who is really great, very story telling! A dark track that grabs you and won’t let you go until the end. Almost a scary track to be honest, but so powerful. It ends in a brutal way too, I remember I was kinda surprised the first time I heard it. Track 9 : Like this beginning! Sounds like a synth/violin. Oh, lyrics are in a foreign language! Polish? Sorry if I’m wrong, I don’t really know which language it is! I usually have some trouble to appreciate music in a language I don’t understand but with this one it seems like you don’t have to understand the lyrics cause you feel the mood… I really like the instru, with folk and electric guitars and even some harmonica at the end. And, as usual since the beginning of this tape, it flows really well :) Track 10 : Oh, I really like the beginning! Love the rhythm of the guitar backwards and the bass line too… A female vocalist I instantaneously liked… Really like her voice, she’s not faking. A cool and relaxing but not boring song, me like it :nice: On my top list from this tape! Thumbs up to the bass line and guitar riff, all the instruments fit really well together, I really like it! Can’t wait to know who it is :D Track 11 : Oh yes, sounds like a soul song :) I know this piano riff with this guitar and this bass, I just can’t remember… Here come the voices : a duet between a male and female, their voices fit well together. It seems to be a cover, a well done one! I may be wrong but… Is it Peter Gabriel??! Hahaha, Khalplay if you read this… ;) Anyway, I like this song, especially the violins. Maybe a bit long though (almost 6 minutes). But that’s ok, the flow is still great. Track 12 : Last one, already! A female echo-y vocalist, another « dark track », original! Oh! It changes very brutaly, it becomes « lighter » with a male vocalist who reminds me Damon Albarn. I really like it! A dreamy mood, « hello sunshine, come to my life » yes please, just come… A cool track, I like its rhythm too. Great way to end this tape ! Overall, I really enjoyed listening to this tape! The flow was just perfect, the tracks were original and eclectic even though I didn’t love them all. It have the strong feeling that you put a lot of efforts into my tape and I’m really glad about it. Thank you very much mixtape maker :nice: Now, even though I may know who you are… Reveal yourself :whip: :D PS: sorry for the delay... But I can't believe I made it as I said I would, it still Friday here (11:59 p.m :D )
  5. Had my first listen! I want to have a second listen before I'll post my review... I won't be able to do it before Friday, I'm sorry :(
  6. Just downloading mine! So far... I just LOVE the .zip title!!! :D :D And to answer my mixtape maker: not yet but I'll do as soon as I can, I promise, maybe this afternoon if I have some time... Can't wait!! :wacky:
  7. Wow, some tapes seem to be awesome :wacky: To my mixtape maker: I received mine but as I'm at work right now and won't be back until tomorrow morning I can't even listen to it :( I'll try to review it tomorrow if I'm not too exhausted or, at worst, on Friday... Anyway, can't wait :D
  8. Done, Uploaded, Sent! Can't wait to receive mine now  Oh and dear mixtape maker, I'll have a really, really, really busy week... I'll try my best to review it as fast as I can but don't worry, I'll do it, at worst a week after it'll be given to me :nice: :escaping:
  9. Hi everyone! I don't have a lastfm or something that could help my partner but it's no big deal, I love to discover new stuff and like all kind of music :) So, to sum up in a 4 words sentence... PUT WHAT YOU LIKE! :D
  10. Yay! I've been waiting for that one for a long time now :) Please sign me up Violet :nice:
  11. :wacky: Thanks
  12. I'm relieved :D Hi Naomi, I'm Sofia, your mixtape maker :nice: No probs about the lateness, I'm really glad to know you listened to it a few times and took that seriously. Plus, I knew in advance you'd take your time to review it, like you did in the last mixtape exchange (don't ask me why, I remembered that). So I was prepared and there's no big deal :) Anyway, here's my reply. I wanted to do it in the quote but then it got messy so I gave up :P 1) So this soothing voice belongs to a great artist previously known as Shipwreck and now called Lontalius from New Zealand. He is also known as 'Italian Plastic', Eddie, just here on Coldplaying :) It's from his first E.P, 'Singing To You Shipwreck'. You should really have a listen if you liked this one and also to another track called Emmett Brown. I love his work! 2) Haha sorry you didn't like it... I understand why though. I knew this would be a risky choice because you seemed not to listen to female voices that much and this one isn't very original. Anyway, it's a funny and short pop song I like and discovered recently from a band, Love Inks, called, as you guessed, Blackeye. 3) Yay, this one's for dancing  :D I wanted to follow the previous mood with an electro dancing song. I really like the male voice and the musicality of this one, especially with the bass line and the electric guitar, though it's electro with the synth and the drum machine. It's from an American band, Penguin Prison. This song is called Golden Train and got famous here cause it opened a big TV show. 4) So glad you liked this one! I think you totally described everything well here, I got nothing left to say :) This is Shout Out Louds, a Swedish band, off their second album (they made 3) 'Our Ill Wills'. I can commend you some others songs from them if you want but basically their albums are all good :) 5) Yep, absolutely, dreamy music... That's what I love in this song, it always makes me float :wacky: And I absolutely can't understand the lyrics neither :blank: It's Cannons from a little American band called Youth Lagoon. They're currently preparing their first album. 6) Aaaand... Right! Noah And The Whale! I really thought you'd know it because they're from UK... I couldn't help but put it anyway. I'm just in love with this song. All is perfect, especially the lyrics :wacky: It's from their second album 'First Days Of Spring', my very favourite of them so far. You should listen to it if you didn't because it's a brilliant opus, really  7) This person's voice is... A female one :D I'm really glad you liked it!! It's Beach House with I Do Not Care For The Winter Sun. This is a free new song posted on their website a few months ago (right after the last mixtape exchange). I love this band, their last album, Teen Dream, is epic. You should check it out if you liked this song, a real dreamy album :) Oh and again, you're right, I always struggle to understand what she sings... 8) Once again, you said it all :wacky: Bon Iver with Blood Bank, off their latest material, the Blood Bank E.P from 2008. Justin Vernon is a genius, his songwriting is so awesome... Always leaves me stunned. New Bon Iver album out soon, from what I already heard it's gonna be great... They also made an album called For Emma, Forever Ago (their first one). And Justin Vernon made some solo stuff (2 albums) if you wanna check out his work :) 9) You probably heard his first single on radio or TV, that's why it may sound familiar :) James Vincent McMorrow with Hear The Noise That Moves So Soft And Low, an Irish artist. Off his first album, Early In The Morning, that he recorded all alone during months in a small town in Ireland. He tried to use his voice as an instrument as he didn't have trumpets and all other stuff. I really love how it sounds. You'd like it I think, I commend you to check it out :) 10) Haha you cracked me up! To be honest, I didn't pay attention to that lyric line  but maybe it's because every time I hear David Wingo's voice, my brain gets disconnected... Love the first line though ("shreds my heart, in million different places all the time") Anyway, this a song called Lakes Of Wine by the American band I absolutely love, Ola Podrida. Their stuff is mostly based on guitars and their lyrics are great too. They made 2 albums, both are awesome. 11) Yep, his voice is kinda special... That's why I like it! It's a French duet singing in English called Cocoon. They're not that famous here but all their shows are sold out very quickly (and they're good live too). Oh and the song is called Dolphins off their last album, which is great and better than their first one in my opinion. 12) Yeah you're right! Once again I was afraid you'd knew it because it's Florence Welch + Kid Harpoon and they're both from the UK :P Glad you liked it!! It's a cover from Bruce Springsteen's 'I'm Goin' Down', I love it :) 13) I agree about the grating thing, I always thought it gives him this funny sounding :) It's Little Comets with Her Black Eyes, off their great first album. I wanted to put a more upbeat song but I was afraid you'd knew it, as they're from UK too, so I chose to put this one, an acoustic and quieter one. 14) Haha, yeah, slinky as you say :wink3: I like this funky vibe, Jamiroquai-ish as you say :) It's a young French artist singing in English (again!) called Charles Pasi. I got into him because he's the opening act for Jack Johnson, gig I'm gonna attend this summer  Anyway, it's off his debut funky album, Uncaged. 15) I'm glad you liked the way I ended this tape :) I was a bit afraid too for this one, I thought this might not fit at all your tastes but well, I'm happy you understand why I put it on there... It's another French artist singing in English and Spanish, Jehro. He has lots of musical influences that's why his music is really interesting I think. This one is Tonight Tonight, off his second album out a few weeks ago and I've been waiting for 4 or 5 years know, Cantina Paradise. I'm glad you didn't hate the tape overall! To be honest, I immediately saw we didn't have the same tastes, though I also like some bands you like, so I thought I had basically 2 choices: making a tape that fits your tastes or making an original and coherent one with some different genres and unknown artists. I chose the risky way and I don't regret at all, I'm really glad I could make you listen to some different stuff. I understand why you think it was a bit boring in places, I also thought I put lots of acoustic tracks at the end... I'm also happy you liked the flow, I really worked on it and even made some last minute changes :) Oh and about the artwork... That's great you noticed it :P And no, it's not just your Coldplay brain, it's a picture I took during the beginning of the gig (Violet Hill), in Lyon in 2008 and it's Chris right here :D I'm kinda proud of this picture I admit  Well, I'm finally done! Please feel free to ask me anything you want about the tape and the artists. I can also give you some material if you're interested and you can't find it :nice: Condensed tracklist: Song - Artist - Album #1 - Lontalius - Lontalius (previously known as Shipwreck) - Singing you to Shipwreck - 2010 - New Zealand #2 - Blackeye - Love Inks - (single track) - 2011 - USA #3 - Golden Train - Penguin Prison - (single track) - 2010 - USA #4 - Normandie - Shout Out Louds - Our Ill Wills - 2006 - Sweden #5 - Cannons - Youth Lagoon - (single track) - 2011 - USA #6 - Blue Skies - Noah And The Whale - First Days Of Spring - 2009 - UK #7 - I Do Not Care For The Winter Sun - Beach House - (single track) - 2010 - USA #8 - Blood Bank - Bon Iver - Blood Bank E.P - 2008 - USA #9 - Hear The Noise That Moves So Soft And Low - James Vincent McMorrow - Early In The Morning - 2011 - Ireland #10 - Lakes Of Wine - Ola Podrida - Belly Of The Lion - 2009 - USA #11 - Dolphins - Cocoon - Where The Oceans End - 2010 - France #12 - I'm Goin' Down - Kid Harpoon & Florence Welch (Bruce Springsteen cover) - UK #13 - Her Black Eyes - Little Comets - In Search Of Elusive Little Comets - 2011 - UK #14 - Up To Us - Charles Pasi - Uncaged - 2011 - France #15 - Tonight Tonight - Jehro - Cantina Paradise - 2011 - France EDIT: here's the link to my tape in case someone is interested: http://www.sendspace.com/file/ekd9zf
