Billy Corgan Sings the Hits Where was I? I was being sarcastic about Cobain rocking and Soundgarden and Pumpkins being 'Alright', but I must jump to defend Kurts voice. I know he doesnt have the range or versatility of Chris Cornell, but Cobains voice was highly original and quite grand to listen to as well (Original in a good way). He had this Southern growl (strange for a Seattle boy) which was really unique, even when he screamed- he didnt just sound like a guy screaming (Even though thats essentially what it was). As a lyricist he was good, as a guitarist he was nothing special (And its unfair on him because people go around calling him horrible things like "Sloppy" and its not as if he called himself the next Jimi Hendrix) but he went with what he had. His chord patterns sounded repetitive after awhile but his melody's were usually pretty original sounding. Wow, I dont even like Nirvana.

Excluding Tool, those bands (Especially Soundgarden) are still regularly recognised by those little gimps wearing hoodies. Of course not every kid knows of Chris Cornell or Billy Corgattt, but theyre still better known then a lot of bands. This is NOT comparing them to Nirvana of course. Nirvana fucking rocked, Soundgarden and Smashing Pumpkins were "Alright" or something.
