Own Lyrics/Music/Artwork/Anything
I'm 17...learned keyboard from when i was about 4...but started teaching myself more piano-y stuff a few years ago. Joined a band about a year or 2 ago and tried singing...went suprisingly well! :P First song I ever sang was Everything's Not Lost...which was...kind of ambitious lol I still get really annoyed about the reliability of my voice...as I feel like I can rarely sing well...and so far ive just been lucky with performances Got guitar 1 year ago...didnt get into it as much as piano but I know the basics and I can play the style of chords that Chris Martin seems to like (bottom 2 strings always open), which (with detuning) can work with almost any song :D wow i talked a lot...sorry about that :P

:D:D heehee thank you I use my Yamaha PSR2100 keyboard and some crappy mic...eagle something i think...its broken now really...well the head broke...in "I Was Wrong" I had a sock over it to try and soften the sounds lol! Unfortunately it didnt smell great! :P For recording I used Cakewalk...but I guess thats not so important... On stage I also use the RP80 effects pedal (mostly just delay/echo) on my voice for the intro to Yellow :D and also distortion for "Feeling Good" (Muse version) Oh and I suppose I have a guitar lol Yamaha Pacifica I believe...its either crap or broken lol...I get a lot of noise now when not hitting any strings :S

http://www.myspace.com/pault543 http://www.myspace.com/pault543 http://www.myspace.com/pault543 http://www.myspace.com/pault543 lol A good idea for a thread...althgh i dont want to say too much As for what to write songs about...I wanted avoid writing about love but it just seems to be what comes out lol The lyrics are fairly negative as well...reflection of my love life really :( lol but a song as a whole can sometimes sound positive despite its negative meaning... Enjoy..:P

How do you compose music to ur lyrics
hehe there's another thread like this on coldplay.com It was more about how you write songs...I suggested not writing definite lyrics before establishing some kind of melody or chords heres what I said: --- Interesting topic as I'm sure there is no "right way" of writing a song. Some people play with chords..and then add lyrics, perhaps humming the melody of the lyrics to start with. Some people write lyrics and then put it music, although I dislike this idea because your songs are likely to have a too-perfect structure. Try finding a Coldplay song that you dont know (perhaps a difficult task ) and reading the lyrics..you'll see that they seem very odd without music. Sometimes you can just think of a catchy riff, as with Talk...of course, they "borrowed" that with permission. I was wondering if Coldplay made Talk version 2 first and then reworked it to the released version. If this is true, then you can see how they used the same chords and same ideas. I prefer a combination of the 1st and 3rd methods - have a tune in your head, whether it be for the lyrics or a riff and start to create chord patterns. From there, add the melody of all the lyrics and, finally, the lyrics themselves. I am no expert though... I've only written two songs that I am half-happy with Lol ---

who plays what?
Yes I'm pretty sure its Chris...although in the scientist perhaps its Jonny. Live there is someone called Matt that sometimes plays some acoustic parts, such as for Yellow (since Chris usually doesnt like to play anything for that song :D)

Live performances on piano
Hehe i basically know it...dont have time to fix it up nicely for you so ill try and type it... Firstly, Chris plays the riff on the normal octave, as well as on the octave below with his left hand at the same time. An important feature...makes it sound much fuller... Normal riff: Eb,Bb,G,Eb,Bb,G,Eb,Bb, Db,Bb,F,Db,Bb,F,Db,Bb, Db,Bb,F,Db,Bb,F,Db,Bb, C,Ab,F,C,Ab,F,C,Ab Live Riff: Eb,Bb,G,Eb,Bb,G,Eb,Bb, Db,Bb,F,Db,Bb,F,Db,Bb, Db,Bb,F,Db,Bb,F,Db,Bb, C,Ab,F,C,Ab,G,Ab,C <---differs here You may also want to play the lowest note of the chord when you play the highest note...so Eb with G for the first note, especially with your left hand.. Hope this helps...don't have a piano in front of me now so I may have screwed that up...but hopefully not :P

Chris Equipment?
Hehe I just saw a thread like this on coldplay.com Coldplay use pre-recorded backing tracks on nearly all of their songs. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this, as most bands do it. In Square One you may even notice that some of Jonny's guitar parts are pre-recorded and all the string parts and strange clicking noises are also pre-recorded. Heres what i said in the other thread: As far as I can tell, all members have click tracks in their ears (well at least Chris and Will) and I noticed in the Live 2003 DVD that Chris presses a button on his wireless receiver (back pocket :P) at the start of Clocks, probably starting the backing track. Quite risky too, since he wasnt sat at the piano when he pressed it... Its also probably fair to say that the band couldnt exactly reproduce some of the sounds in the backing tracks, because they are quite unique and require computers/technology of some sort...such as in Talk. On the other hand, I could be wrong but I'm not too bothered because it sounds amazing and they wrote the songs so they can do what they want with them. I've often thought how an amature band could reproduce this easily and cheaply. One idea I came up with was to produce a stereo audio file (say mp3) with the left side a click track and the right side the backing track. Split the output, sending the left side to the band and the right side to the mixer for the audience to hear. Of course, if you had a laptop it would be easier :P Heres an article explaining a bit about Keanes system btw: http://www.apple.com/pro/music/keane/index2.html

Singing Everything's Not Lost
ive got to sing Everything's Not Lost in about 2 weeks and im dead nervous does anyone have any singing tips? i can usually hit the highest notes...but not the lowest part of the high part (as in, the end of "ah ah yeAH" lol), because its the lowest part of my high (falsetto?) voice. whether it sounds ok seems to depend on what ive eaten before hand... anyone know how i could clear my throat before the show? (like gargle hot water?)
