That's exactly what I've thought some months ago. It's possible, but I don't want to use it anymore for my band activities. Let me show you the Pros and Cons: Around 2 months ago, I wrote a friendly mail to the guys from acousticsamples concerning their Kawai EX piano samples, because buying an iLok is no option for me. I had a mail-conversation with a really friendly guy from France, who offered me the sell an older version, with no iLok required. So I bought the samples. The samples sound quite good. I use Apple's Mainstage (using them with Windows is as far as I know also possible), so I configured the equalizer, a compressor and an exciter. The sound really flattered me, when I used my earplugs. It was/is Chris piano sound. The disillusion followed, after I wanted to try that sound in our rehearsal room: At first you always have to start your Mac and Mainstage and rewire everything before you start. Second, let me explain at first, I'm neither a musician, nor a sound guy and perhaps I'm totally incapable. But when I send the sound from the 3mm earplug port to my mixer (by using a 3mm to 2x XLR cable), the sound isn't really good after all. I treid several things, but from my point of view the sound-port of the Apple device is the bottleneck here. So now I could buy an external sound card/device for the Mac to improve that sound. But I think buying a new keyboard with that sound is more sustained, than buying several devices after all. So I went to a music store near me and tried the Kawai MP 6 and MP 10. Both concert grand pianos are sampled from the Kawai EX Grand Piano (as you can read on Kawai's Homepage). There are several functions, so I couldn't figure out in that short period of time how close you can come to Chris piano sound with them. But - and that's the important thing to me - you are close with those devices. Cheers, Jan

I will buy myself a Kawai Stage Piano during the next months. As far as I read, the Kawai EX Concert Grand samples are inside many Kawai MP keyboards, like the MP 9000, MP 9500, MP 5, MP 8, MP 6 and MP 10. I'm looking forward to play at least some of them, before I'l buy one. If you have any further information about that, please let me know :)

Don't know, if it's helpful to you, but if you google a bit for the VLV Mastertrack, you'll find the original VLV divided into several parts. One part is the bassline, so it should be easy to find out what is played originally there :)

THX Patrik! That's exactly what I wanted to try when I'm at my big music shop :) For my Yamaha CLP it is possible to send MIDI notes from the computer to the piano. I'm just guessing right now, but in my opinion it is all the "magic" of the MP 9000 rac: They just use Chris' piano as "MIDI IN" and instead of having a Kawai 9000 in the rack, they just took all it's electronic and put it in a box... In my opinion this is no rocket science, but a great idea after all :)

From my first view: Seems you are right here :) Thanks a lot! So that seems for me, as if I have to stay at my "Giant Piano" sound at first... But it's a short time til christmas ;) If anyone has an idea / solution how this sound could be created by a computer via MIDI, I would be really thrilled. Hi, hopefully it's allowed to post our wanted-ad here. We are beginners and absolutely non commercial, so I just hope that it's okay. For starting with our Coldplay Coverband, we are searching for a drummer in the region around Düsseldorf and Köln (Cologne) in Germany. We (vocals/guitar/keyboard, e-guitar, bass, violin) are all around 20-25 y.o. and used the last months for creating our band. We learned our first songs, organised a rehearsal room and bought hardware so that we are able to play in a small gym. But after all, it's a long way to go for our first act. We are all passionated, but our skill level varies from the total beginner to around 15 years of making music. It seems unlikely, but if any drummer in this forum comes from our region and wants to cover coldplay, I think it would be really really cool. Cheers, Jan

Hi Kacey, here is my I answer from another thread, where someone had nearly the same question like you: As I said, I'm not an expert, but I can highly recommend the Yamaha CLP series. But I think it's a matter of what you like or dislike. I would highly recommend to go/drive to a big music store and test several products. I think it's the only way to get an overview about the market... Or look at the second hand market... We often spoke about Chris' Piano - the Yamaha GT20 - in this forum.. It sends MIDI signals to the backstage, where a great piano sound is implemented. At some threads we already discussed, that Native Instruments could be used for that. For my CP tribute band that we found some weeks ago, I use "The Giant" from NI, at other threads I read, the New York Grand Piano (also from NI) is used. Hi guys, I visited 2 Coldplay concerts of the MX tour in Germany during the last year. Before the Back to the Future Theme was played, some kind of Hip-Hop song was played very loudly (at each concert). What I understood from the lyrics was something like: "99 dogs and a bitchy one" ...what seems to be total nonsense :(. Has anybody an idea from what song I'm talking here? Hi Mollyxyloto, what are you exactly searching for? A keyboard, a "stage piano" or an electronic piano? I'm not an expert, so my advice just bases on my personal experience(s): As a stage piano I use the Yamaha P-90, that costs around 500 Euros. If you use it with the default speakers, the sound is some kind of scary. But if you want to use it with external speakers or headphones, it is (in my opinion) a cool device. At home I am using a Yamaha CLP 230 (an electric piano) and I really really love it. If you don't have to hurry up with buying a new device - and if you like electric pianos at all and if you don't want to spend about a thounsand Euros: Don't underestimate the second hand market. There are so many people who start learning piano with an electric one and some time later they realize, that they need a real piano / no e-piano at all. My device costs around 1500 euros, if you actually buy it in a store. I bought a second hand device from a family who has bought a real piano for about half the price. I can highly recommend that :) Hopefully I could help you! jaik

I'm interested from which instrumental version you got thoses synths :) Here are the first parts of my notes that I wrote down by ear in my Logic... But as I said: The notes shall be more or less okay, but the sound is really scary :) Id like to hear what you have. Hi Coldplayers, I'm happy to join this great forum. For around one year I'm a passive reader. I'm doing the 'Chris Martin part' in a coldplay coverband... but we are still in the founding process :). In my personal opinion, Hurts Like Heaven sounds a bit flat without the synths, coldplay uses during their performance... Those that you can hear in the background fom 0:40 on: youtube.com/watch?v=YXMfNOyFrgI Founding the band was my idea... so it's on me to create a background track... challange accepted... Finding out the synthesizer notes by ear wasn't a big problem. I imported HLH into my Logic 9 and created a VST track below, where I noted down the notes. Perhaps I'm not 100 percent right all the time, but could sounds fairly similar. My huge problem is the sound of the synths, that I try to recreate. Every synth preset I am using in logic sounds like creepy midi. Has anybody of you ever tried to recreate those synths and could give me perhaps some helpful advises where to start?
