The Squier Strat is always a good one for beginners, it'll last you about 2 years, then you might want to replace it, maybe not. The new ones made in Indonesia are quite a bit better than the ones made durring the late 90's. Most places have a squier strat pack that comes with an amp, extra strings, a cable, a tuner, and a few other things you'll need to begin. I've only been playing about 8 - 9 months and my strat is still in perfect condition and sounds great considering how little I paid for it. Good luck!
