Yeah, B.C can be expensive. But so is Toronto.

Cheap place to live in Canada is Montreal. Great city, though.

hahaha..ok. You do that Joyce.

But one thing I know for sure is that the city of Montreal alone has 3 universities, all within a 20 minute walk from each other, so all the young people are clustered in particular areas. It's cool.

UN has named Canada as the best country to live in the world!

In 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999 and again in the year 2000 Canada was ranked number one (1) by the United Nations Human Development Index as the best country in the world to live.

Different statistics have ranked Canada sixth in the world in standard of living (measured according to gross domestic product per capita), behind only other countries such as the United States, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Germany and Japan. Canada's rank among nations tends to rise even higher in assessments that consider gross domestic product per capita along with other factors (e.g., life expectancy, education) that contribute to the overall quality of life.

This means Canadians enjoy a comfortable standard of living, good health care, social security, a high level of education, and a safe and clean environment. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms entrenched in the Canadian constitution guarantees such fundamental rights as equity, mobility and legal rights, as well as freedom of speech, assembly and association.

Canada is the world's second largest country. Its most populated regions lie in the country's south along the U.S. border and it enjoys four distinct seasons. In Canada the daytime summer temperatures can rise to 35°C and higher, while lows of minus 25°C are not uncommon in winter. As in many countries, more moderate temperatures are the norm in spring and fall.

Results from a 1997 survey of people conducted in 20 countries show that the majority of people surveyed placed Canada in the top-ten list of countries where they would like to live. Most consider Canada a generous, peaceful and compassionate nation, while they see Canadians as honest, friendly and polite.

As immigrants benefit from all these advantages, Canada also benefits from opening its doors to skilled workers, entrepreneurs, refugees and relatives of people already settled in Canada.

In 2001 the number of total landed immigrants, initially targeted to be around 225,000, exceeded that number by 25,386. This is a 10% increase from the 2000 figures of 227,327.

Of the total of 250,386 new immigrants, 61% were economic immigrants, 27% family class immigrants, 11% refugees and the remaining one per cent belonged to other categories.

Out of this total, 134,118 people, or 54%, came from 10 countries, with China at the top of the list with 40,282; followed by India with 27,899; Pakistan, 15,342; Philippines, 12,884; Korea, 9,613; U.S., 5,920; Iran, 5,726; Romania, 5,586; Sri Lanka, 5,517; and Britain, 5,349.

Canada is one of the largest immigrant-receiving countries in the world. Immigrants account for 17% of its population - a higher share than any of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries except Australia.
