i remember reading somewhere else on this forum speculating about coldplay's 5 spot, sorry for not remembering who. Anyways he/she was saying how in the past 2 albums the track #5 was reserved for a very strong song/single, i.e. yellow, and clocks. now that we have the official tracklisting, we know that "talk" has the 5 spot on X and Y. knowing that most of you guys have heard the single, how do you think it'll hold up? especially to its predecessors?

I haven't heard 'Talk' so I don't know.

 

The number 2 seems to be a special place as well. 'Shiver' which was first single for Parachutes and 'In My Place' which was first single for A Rush Of Blood To The Head. This time it's 'What If' and from what I heard the band is quite proud of this one. I have a feeling 'What If' will be a single as well.

the version of 'Talk' that was 'leaked' isnt the version on the album.. (or so we've been told) I guess we can only wait and see..HOWEVER, I have notice that on any album I buy, the 5-6 track on a cd is always a good tune.. I dont know why, perhaps because its mostly the midway point thru an album..??? they want to keep the listener listening??

ya, well Clocks and Yellow were big, and I think it's just that they want to keep you listening half-way through the album. And also, it doesnt make much sense to me because you just want a nice flow to your album.

i think what if is second, talk will be third if it is going to be one.........i read somewhere on here that they had already picked the second single before they knew the first......i guess what if........i think Square One would be great too, but sometimes becoming a single a song gets overplayed and ruined, and i love that track too much.

ya that too i was just throwing out names.....i mean no-one really knows anything....the live version we've heard were crappy, cant even hear the bass line on some of it. All of those will sound a lot different studio quality. Also, talk has been revamped and made mega so we dont even know that anymore. So really, we know nothing on the album until Speed Of Sound comes out or leaks.
