I know I've learned this before, but I'm completely blank....... it's probably easy too, but I just forgot how to do it. :S

 

Chuck travels 300 miles in the same time that dana travels 270 miles. Chuck's rate of travel is 5 mph more than dana's and they travel the same length of time, at what speed does chuck travel?

 

a)56 mph

b)45 mph

c)50mph

d)44 mph

v = d/t

 

t = d/v knowing that the time of both guys was the same you can ermm, equal them, so:

 

d/v (of chuck) = d/v (of dana)

 

(300 m)/(x+5) = (270)/ x

 

300x = 270x + 1350

 

x = 45 so that's the speed of Dana

 

Chucks is (x+5) so the answer is 50, it's c)
