I know thats alot. I hope someone can help me. Im really into decoding songs and I love Coldplay and think Chris Martin has some important messages. Gracias!!

I will attempt Warning Sign. To me it is about that failed chance with someone you wished you had taken. Be that with a girl or a close friend or whatever. "You were an island and I passed you by." That sums it up for me. You noticed it but you didn't take advantage. You feel like you need to tell someone about it, "Come on in, I've got to tell you what a state I'm in." And eventually you admit you were wrong or you failed somehow, "So I crawl back into your open arms." I'm not one for really deeply analysing Coldplay's songs but I like thinking about them sometimes. Warning Sign is one of my all time favourites so that is my little view about it. Hope it helps... :D

i'm a bit curious too... :D

I never have any idea unless I hear it from the actual band, but I think that The Scientist is about a love lost by death or some irreversible thing. If the video is any indication, it is someone who wishes to rewind time and have a chance to get back "to the start".

The first verse kind of implies that there were words unsaid, feelings left in the dark, maybe he took the person for granted and wishes now to get a second chance to say everything.

Those are probably obvious interpretations, but somebody needed to say them. :D

Amsterdam is called so because it was written there

High Speed is about a washing machine.

The lyrics were about the machine and the title was taken from one of the wash settings.

Clocks is about death.

What If is kind of the opposite to Imagine by John Lennon. This was written by Chris and shown to Jonny on piano as a full song before showing it to Guy and Will.

Warning Sign is about letting something go of someone you love and then realising what you had and it being too late to get it back

hey there. i too was curious about what some coldplay songs actually meant so i did a little research and i found an interview that a company called 'chartattack' had with coldplay in regards to AROBTTH. If you would like to view the whole article go to http://www.chartattack.com/damn/2002/09/2001.cfm

the bit that i have here is the responses to what the songs mean in the album. although it doesnt exactly say what songs mean what, i found it interesting.

WILL: I think all the songs on the album can be about anything as huge, as massively wide in scope, or as tiny as you want them to be. The songs that seem to be about really personal things, I think also hold wider meanings. Likewise, the songs like "Politik," which appear to be referential towards big political things can also be about the things that you feel strongly about in your own little bubble.

Were you consciously trying to create different levels of meaning?

JONNY: Not consciously! [He laughs.] We'd be lying if we said we really have that much control over things like that. I think Chris worked really, really hard on his lyrics on this record — harder than ever, basically 'cause he felt like he had a real opportunity to do some really good lyrics. And so they are worked on heavily, but to say they're consciously multi-level, I think you'd have to be a fucking genius. You always want your songs to work on many different levels — to be immediate and to be growers at the same time. I think the perfect pop song is a song you listen to the first time and get something about it, and each time you listen to it, you get something more. So you always want things to work on different layers, but to just know it has happened rather than know how to do it. Otherwise, people would do it all the time... Coming up with parts is a very unconscious thing. It's like, you just play. You don't think about what's going to happen, really. You can do to a certain extent, but wherever they come from — I never think we ever sit down [and say], "It's got to go like this."

thanks so much yall..if you find out anymore info please let me know!

^Its not about a washing machine as such, but yes, Chris was inspired to write a song called 'High Speed' when they looked at the washing machine and saw the name of the setting. Pretty funny.

Politik for me is about your own personal politics, eg. what you think is good/bad etc, and what you love/hate in life. For example Chris saying "Give me real, dont give me fake". That's his 'own politik', :) or preference.

I also love the lyric "Give me love over this" - im still convinced that as this song was written the week of 9/11 these lyrics are linked with those terrible events and are Chris's response to them- and in fact the whole world's response. I mean, surely everyone would rather have love and peace over the type of evil that happens in our world.
