things in school you learn for life...

Featured Replies

Well...of course you'll need english and maths and stuff in your future....

but i realised in the last weeks that there is more about school for me...for example my german lesson....I need them to get a better view of things....to think about myself....and my life....it is just great....

I'll miss it when I've left school...

haven't you already started a thread like this one ... ? O.o

well, i think i dpn't learn too much for life at school ... except for re ligious education.

we're not talking about the bible and stuff ... it's more like philosophy class and i like that :)

I think there was a similar thread....not sure...if yes sorry...bt not by me...or was it?

To be honest I haven't leant much for life at school, at least not since I'm going to Grammar School. We hardly ever talk about anything that could make you think in our German, French, Spanish or English lessons. We have to read a new book every second or third week or so, most the time people haven't read it, so you can't discuss. Basically we're only talking about books, history of literature and grammar.

Maths can be very difficult sometimes, but at least it's something you're gonna need. I'm not saying languages aren't important, but why should I read books, which were written 200 years ago if I couldn't even order anything if I was in France? Obviously I'm not the only who has this problem.

The only subjects I might miss when I leave school are history and economics (but I won't because I'll still have that at Uni)... and sports.

in the school you learn the basic things of your life

that's true but there're lots of things you can't learn in the school; you can only learn them after having some experiences on the real life. Every little experience that you've in your life teaches you much more than some stuff that your teachers could tell you.

Anyway, English was really useful and maths too, but there're some subjects which didn't seem to have too much utility in life, like phylosophy, but they were really interesting, at least for me.

yeah, you're right

but i meant you learn how to live (the basic things) in the school. when you go to the first grade you're 7 or something and you can't really communicate or talk with people about something interesting. but after during the school years you get friends, girl/boyfriend(s), first experiences of alcohol, smoking or even drugs, understand politics and world economy etc. all these things are based on connections, friendships IMO. in this point school (or gymnasium or college or whatever) is useful. you get experienced for the first time in your life

yeah, I know what you mean... of course we learn the basic things there, but there's a moment which you've learnt almost everything that you need and then your level is ok so arrives the moment which you go out with your friends and have some experiences with them but this happens out of your school, not there, while you're having the lessons - the teachers wouldn't allow you to have some experiences with drugs, alcohol and so on... there!!!

what you learn / don't learn in school has a lot to do with yourself.

most important thing you get of school imo is the global knowledge and how to cope in everyday situations. i think learning alone at home is one of the worst things that can be. the social environment is more than important when you're in the age of growning up.
