Headphones, help please

Featured Replies

I wanna buy new headphones but I'm totally lost, I have no idea which I should choose. I've had many but every time I buy new headphones there's something I don't like about them. I need comfortable, reliable headphones to listen to loud music. So if you like your headphones or just know anything about firms and all, give me an advice, please.

:wideeyed:

umm i dont really know anything but i know http://www.ilounge.com does reviews for lots of headphones..although its specific for ipod - i'm sure good headphones will be good in any mp3 or cd player

If you want good sound, the main thing to look for is the frequency range. It should be listed in the product details on the back of the package. Cheap headphones usually have something like 20-20,000 hz. The smaller the first number is, the better the bass, and the bigger the top number is, the better the treble. So headphones that say they're 15-20,000 hz ought to have pretty good bass, and ones that are say 8-22,000 or something like that can play much lower tones and should have fantastic sound.

Now there will always be people who will point out that the human ear can't hear that wide a range, so what's the point, but what happens is that because they are made to to handle the lower sounds, the range that you can hear sounds much richer and clearer.

For the record I generally abhor brand loyalty, so I'm cringing while I'm saying this, but Sony really does make some fantastic (and comfortable) headphones. Their good ones usually cost half as much as similar headphones and have twice the sound. I have two sets of theirs, one the over-the-ear type for my room or the computer, and one set of earbuds for my mp3 player. I really love them. I'll see if I can find the ones I have- give me a minute.

edit: here's the earbuds I have- they're really cheap, but sound amazing for the price http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=MDRE818LP&Dept=audio&CategoryName=pa_Headphones_FontopiaEarbud

Hey, thank you very much, Erin. Though I remember I had Sony headphones long time ago and I didn't like them much.

You're very welcome, Lera, hope I was of some help.

Here's my bigger headphones. btw http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=MDRXD200&Dept=audio&CategoryName=pa_Headphones_CDSeriesStudioMonitor

Yeah, not everyone will like them, I'm sure, and like I said, I feel queasy flogging any one brand, but I really like these two. I'm sure you could find better ones if you were willing to pay alot more, but I've also had more expensive ones that sucked, so...

Honestly, I suffer from the same problem you do, they never fit or they sound terrible or something, so I finally just started telling my tech guru of a brother to pick them out and he's never been wrong yet.

for the average non - bose - riding in an airplane with 300$ headphones person Sony is definitely the best brand

phillips and panasonic are good brands too. I don't think there are a lot more brands as good as those. I prefer Sony because I've never had a problem with any Sony product I bought and with almost everything else I have had at least some. They also sound the best generally like Erin said and the range is the best thing to check for sound quality... I don't think the little headphones are comfortable... like the ipod headphones... but they make some with rubber on them..... it sounds more comfortable

Yeah, I personally was thinking of buying Phillips, just because that's my fave brand for such stuff. I trust this firm, but I can't say I know anything about exactly headphones Phillips.

Thanks for advices anyway, people, it made me think :uneasy:

My headphones are Phillips...they're excellent and not expensive...

I buy them almost every month because I crush them sooner or later. Accidentally, of course :D ...
