Clinton's closely guarded cappuccino break

When a regular guy wants a cup of coffee, he gets a cup of coffee.

Which is why a remarkably laid-back Bill Clinton was spotted sitting in a London branch of Starbucks.

But the former president would be first to admit that not many regular guys are shadowed by an entourage of security men muttering furtively into their sleeves. Mr Clinton did his best to pretend they weren't in view as he gazed out of the window of the coffee shop in Piccadilly.

In London for a speaking engagement, Mr Clinton may have been feeling the need for a little taste of home. For as well as his coffee, he enjoyed one of the U.S. chain's sandwiches. Dressed in a bright red polo shirt and a zip-up bodywarmer, the 60-yearold did not look the least presidential. But passers-by were quick to recognise him.

Those in any doubt had their suspicions confirmed by the bodyguards, two of whom are pictured above.

'He was here for about 20 minutes, just sitting and drinking his coffee,' said a Starbucks employee. 'He was with another man who he talked to while his security men stood outside.'

After his coffee break, Mr Clinton went on to the Ritz Club, almost opposite the Starbucks store.

Earlier he delivered a lecture to political enthusiasts who had paid up to £300 per ticket to hear him speak at the Royal Albert Hall.
