BREAKING NEWS: SAUK COUNTY SCHOOL SHOOTING

Updated: 2:36 PM Sep 29, 2006

A 15-year-old student is in custody, accused of shooting the principal of his school.

Authorities say a custodian saw the ninth-grader walk in with a handgun and shotgun. The principal confronted the teen, who fired three shots. Each hit the principal, who is critically wounded.

The custodian and others finally managed to disarm the teen in a hallway near the main entrance. There's no word on a possible motive. The principal of Weston High School reportedly wrestled the gunman to the ground and was shot. 49-year-old John Klang is in critical condition at UW Hospital. No one else was hurt and the suspect is in custody

The school houses all grades from kindergarten through 12.

Officials say the younger children were sent home while those in

grades nine and up were taken to a gym. Grief counselors were brought in from other districts to talk to them.

All homecoming events scheduled for this weekend have been canceled.
