Fashion is finding its green conscience with bamboo bras, biodegradable surfboards and compostable lipsticks.

Vogue magazine has drawn up a list of 30 must-haves for this season in an attempt to help the fashionable get environmentally friendly.

Recommendations include bras that have bamboo fibre in the underwiring, fair-trade bed linen and ethical diamonds.

LaurenVougeES_468x845.jpgCharity case: Lauren Bush, whose Feed 2 bag is praised by Vogue

Earlier this year, shoppers flocked to buy Anya Hindmarch's £5 I'm Not A Plastic Bag bag. Vogue's experts are now tipping a bag designed by 23-year-old Lauren Bush, niece of the US president.

Ms Bush, an honorary spokeswoman for the United Nations World Food Programme, has created her own alternative to plastic bags, the Feed 2 bag, which will be launched at Harrods later this month.

Profits from sales of the bag will go towards providing a meal a day for two children for a year. Ms Bush, 23, who is also a model, said: "I hope the bag allows people to do something positive in a bite-sized way. It represents a small solution, one bag at a time."

Cargo lipsticks are applauded because the tubes are compostable and the packaging includes wildflower seeds that can be planted.

Aside from fashion items, brides-tobe can discover the delights of delphinium, rose and wildflower confetti grown in Worcestershire, or indulge in some of Montezuma's latest bars of chocolate, grown organically in Papua New Guinea and Peru to the highest ethical and horticultural standards.

Other brands singled out are Home-Blown surfboards, made from sustainable, plant-based material with hemp inlay, and the Triodos bank, which only invests in ethical, sustainable, community-based projects.

Also listed is Eco, a shop selling green household products, due to open in Chiswick in November. The founders are actor Colin Firth, his Italian wife Livia Giuggiolo, her brother Nicola and financier Ivo Coulson. It has been designed by architect Guy Stansfield.

Firth said: "It's all about rethinking our habits. A huge number of people support the idea of eco-living but don't know what to do next."

• The full feature appears in the October issue of Vogue, out on Monday.
