Trouble with Rhythm

Featured Replies

I have been playinf for a while now. I know I have improved a lot. People tell me i have tons of potential. I just need to work on two things: Theory and my timing.

The theory I have no problem with. It all makes sense to me. But my timing is rubbish. I've tried playing with a metronome but it pisses me off. I know that may be my only option...any tips you guys got?

I had this prob too. I solved it by playing the whole jig slow and doing it perfectly with no mistakes before i went normal speed

The best thing to train your timing, it doing the metronome with your feet.

The self-metronome(tapping with your foot) is the best way, because it is from your brains, the same as your playing with the instrument.

What helped me when I was learning timing was to play along with a recording of some kind. Since I knew what time the song in the recording was in, I could work until I was able to match it. At the same time, I never felt bored because I was playing along to music I liked. After I did this for a while, my timing "sense" improved enough that I was able to play in time on my own.

"Get a drummer"

That only works if the rest of the band has good enough timing to play in time with the drummer...;)

I have a drummer now. Its pretty much him and I for now. Just screwing around. But it helps my timing a bit.
