Hey ho,

Do anyone know which piano chris martin use?

if a related thread already exist then sorry for opening.

thank you

Hi,

Chris Martin plays a Yamaha GT-20 piano.

This not really a piano because there are no strings in it but a MIDI equipment and a sound generator. For example, Elton John uses that kind of equipment, no need to be tuned before each show.

On the X&Y tour, Chris and Will played on a Kawai MP7 or MP9, I can't remember exactly.

Greetings,

Yes Chris did use a Yamaha GT-20 on X&Y and all previous live shows, and yes this is a MIDI concept with a seperate sound module, however for this tour it is apparent that he is NOT using his GT-20, because the string section of the piano is open to see. It is an upright piano of some sort (probably a yamaha as well) and interestingly enough has reverse keys (which was either custom made or simply painted).

In one of Roadie 42 blogs they mention a Vox Continental, however this is a portable organ. From recent accounts from shows playing on B-stage things like The hardest Part and Postcards from far away I would have to assume this was scratched for a more conventional portable stage piano such as a Fender Rhodes, which would look similar to a Vox Continental.

Now those blue keyboards with the the reverse keys are actually Korg KONTROL49. It is a straight up MIDI keyboard that has been painted to look how it is. I did see a picture of a non-painted KONTROL49 on the B-stage once, so he may be using that there, but I have no seen any images of the B-stage show since they changed it, so I am unsure.

Hope that helps more than confuses.

then you will see the piano man have a piano too like chris have on this tour

I saw them live (coldplay) and on the Screen behind the band they show Chris to play this cool piano.

Yes he is using the GT-20 piano.

GT-20 piano has hammers (in order to reproduce the natural piano feeling when it's played) but no strings. I know that because I'm a piano player and I'm interested in Yamaha stuff.

Thank you for the korg keyboard, I was looking for this information.

Yeah his piano looks very different because he's tweaked it so much for this tour... for example you can see the upright hammers, and he's interchanged the black and white keys like a harpsichord...

Huh, I just assumed it looked taller than the GT-20 but looking closer I guess your right. You must not be from the US...they don't even sell those over here.
