Yamaha GT20-Grand Touch Piano
Chris's piano sound is a custom made patch from a very rare rack module. It would be near impossible to reproduce.

What keyboards do Coldplay use?
The Kawaii is actually used in the studio. The "synthesizer" on stage is not actually a synthesizer, it is a MIDI controller. Specifically, a Korg KONTROL49. I did a lot of research on this last tour. The unit produces absolutely no sound, but sends signals to things that do. Whether that thing is a rack module or a computer program, I am not entirely sure. The controller is actually pretty cheap ($400 range), but is absolutely worthless if you don't have anything to send it to and make sounds.

[8-Aug-2012] Coldplay @ United Center, Chicago, IL, USA
You are all going to hate me.... my wife scored Section 2 Row 1 Seats 5-6. For those of you who have checked out the floor plan, that is dead center right in front of the stage extension.

How much of it are they faking live?
Lol - oh to be so simple as calling it "faking" Coldplay uses a level of backtracking in some of their tracks. Most an amateur ear will never pick out. Some points about Coldplay's live performances: 1. Chris's piano is not a piano. It is a MIDI controller in a piano casing. The keys run to a sound module which include piano, organ and other synth sounds. 2. Jonny and Guy's keyboard is not a keyboard. It too is a MIDI controller that controls various sound modules. The set up is complex and requires someone who really knows what they are doing to set it up. So yes the strings in VLV, the synths of every teardrop, the harpsichord in LIJ, all of it is being played, I can tell that by the minimal level of proficiency Jonny displays when he plays them. No offense to him, but he's a guitar player first. 3. Jonny will often look like the strumming motions he makes sound nothing like what is coming out. That is because Jonny (much like the Edge) is a master of guitar effects. The final signal is so drenched in effects that it sounds nothing like it is originally strummed. It generally more of a soundscape. He does have plenty of lead lines, and does mess up more than most guitarists, but not a ton. Chris also messes up on piano frequently. He is a great pianist but tries to do a lot and sing at the same time. The band has a keyboard tech that has yet another MIDI keyboard that is played by him live back by the mixing desk. So there kind of is a 5th member lurking out there, that you never see. Sometimes when you hear more sounds then what can possibly be produced by 4 people, it is because more than 4 people are producing it. All in all some of Coldplay's live performance is back-tracked, but it is not near as much as you would think, probably around 10% of the sounds, backing vocals, etc. VLV and MX songs require considerably more complex algorithms to play live than the previous material.

Biggest Disappointment and Surprise of Mylo Xyloto
Surprise: A solid album 8/10 even with the presence of a pop diva on it. Disappointment: Needs more cowbell. And by cowbell I mean Piano.
-
Do you like Princess of China?
One again, Coldplay does not use autotune. Please do not make statements unless you are informed.

Will Mylo Xyloto leak? ** EFFECTIVE 16-10 LINKS NOT PERMITTED ** (PART I)
Wow i had no idea this thread would go on this long when i started it...lol

The back of Chris' shirt at ACL: "CAR KIDS"
Think about it people. Car Kids is probably nothing more than an idea for the title of the song eventually called Charlie Brown. We already know cartoon hearts was a title they flirted with, and the song makes reference to a group of young (kids?) hanging out, and stealing the (parents?) keys to take the car and do so. I hate to say it and ruin all your hopes but it is likely that Cartoon Heart, Car Kids, and Charlie Brown are the same song.

Expect to hear Paradise anytime soon today.
It sounds blissfully big. STOP with the auto-tune shit already. You people saying that have no idea what auto-tune is. There is, nor will there there every be a Coldplay song that contains auto-tune. Vocal effects and Chris doing a manual tremolo of his own voice is NOT auto-tune.

The Tracklisting
^^ And you know this how?

Will Mylo Xyloto leak? ** EFFECTIVE 16-10 LINKS NOT PERMITTED ** (PART I)
I don't believe I ever stated I thought it was real...just that it looked more legit than your average torrent download. Also, the point of my post was also to discuss if it is only a matter of time before someone DOES leak it, and what that timeline could potentially be. VLVODAAHF was leaked I believe 2-3 early, prompting them to stream the album on their website prior to its actual realease so...It can happen.

Will Mylo Xyloto leak? ** EFFECTIVE 16-10 LINKS NOT PERMITTED ** (PART I)
All the tracks are recorded, mixed, and mastered. The Billboard interview was almost 2 weeks ago. They probably sat down and had a couple brews after the Lolla show and decided on the setlist, its not like it would take weeks to determine, all the time consuming tasks were already completed....

Will Mylo Xyloto leak? ** EFFECTIVE 16-10 LINKS NOT PERMITTED ** (PART I)
I want to hold off too. My point of the post is if there is already a legit looking site claiming to have a leak, I don't know if I can hold out for 2 months.

Will Mylo Xyloto leak? ** EFFECTIVE 16-10 LINKS NOT PERMITTED ** (PART I)
I will not be involved with posting a link, but if you google "Coldplay" and filter only results from the last hour (on the left hand side), it is the 7th link down.

Will Mylo Xyloto leak? ** EFFECTIVE 16-10 LINKS NOT PERMITTED ** (PART II)
I found a site that already posts a link to what it claims is a leak of the new album. The site had many comments from users who state they received valid leaks of other albums. If this is happening already, is it only a matter of time before a valid leak surfaces? p.s. I did not attempt the link for fear of viruses, but it seemed more legit than your average claim. EDIT: part I http://coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=78687

I'm bleeding from my face because I don't think this album title is very good.
In the very first day of stats class you would learn that this these ratings are likely skewed due to bias of the voters because of the Thread Title Ill give it a 7, X & Y is their best title, and overall an under-rated album.

[5-Aug-2011] Coldplay @ Lollapalooza Festival, Chicago
It does kind of depend on the venue, and luck...but every time my wife went back the mixing/lighting desk she is the only one that asked, and it was quite a while after the show ended. In Des Moines, IA we actually both got one, but mine had Guys name on it so we gave the other one away to a fan. The Lolla crowd was huge which by itself statistically reduces your chances significantly.

[5-Aug-2011] Coldplay @ Lollapalooza Festival, Chicago
All I can say about getting a setlist is that I utilize the skills of my wife who is extremely more attractive than I am to schmooze over as many security staff as possible. A little bit of it is luck, but in our case last night the guy actually brought it over to us past many fans who were reaching for it. Setlist hint: It is near impossible to get one of the four from the stage. The area towards the back with the lighting and mixers has a setlist though, and not many know that. It is your best bet. Our experience at Lolla was amazing, and I will never do it again...ha. It was an extremely long day we ran to the fence after waiting an hour to get in the grounds. Had to hold our ground all day obnoxious people who felt they had the right to the front because they were fans of the performing band. Bright Eyes fans were extremely obnoxious. I used to kinda like them, can't say I do much after seeing them live. I have always liked Young and the Giant though, and the Kills were pretty sweet, think I will get into them more. Holding our ground all day and the hour leading up to the show was physically exhausting, but it was worth it. The show was amazing, probably the best crowd of the 10+ shows I have been to. Always hard to tell when your close, because you can't gauge how the rest of the crowd is reacting, but from what I have seen it looks like it was the same front to back. Phil was actually sitting on the barrier right in front of me during Fix You. I was going to ask for a pic, but he left right after fix you, probably for a runner. A guy from the group we were hanging with got a pick after convincing a younger security guy to hop up on stage and look for one even though he wasn't suppose to. Was the best experience of my life, and I will never do it again! If I go again I will won't be so set on being up front, even if it is coldplay. It was a once in a lifetime thing. Last thing - if we ever get a setlist again we will probably give it away to someone who we can tell is a true fan. We have have 4 now and I am pretty sure I will never go to a bigger show than that.

Should Coldplay use backing tracks?
They use a fair amount of backing tracks, however not as many as you think. Thier keyboard tech does many of the sounds back by the mixing desk. This gives them more control to improvise a song. The keyboards on stage are not actually keyboards, they are MIDI conrollers which are used to play sounds from a different output hooked up off stage, so they really are playing those parts in Viva much more than you think. They have often noted they really prefer only the 4 of them on stage, but plenty of other stuff is being done live off-stage. Some tracks are obvious though, such as ETIAW.

Got Jonny's setlist. MX is listed separate from hurts like heaven. Will post a pic of it tomorrow.

Why am I not liking this?
Because your trying to hard to like it. Many Coldplay songs are meant to be growers. I remember the first time I listened to ARBTTH I thought wow...I like Clocks but the rest of this is blah. Now it is my favorite album of all time. I think the band is falling victim of too high of expectations right now. We automatically curse ETIAW which I did not care of at first, but after the live performances, videos, and really looking at the lyrics for what they are (a pop tune), I don't mind it at all, and think it would fit perfectly at the end of the album after Moving To Mars as kind of a "The world is going to shit but lets not worry about it now and dance" transition. Give it time, we haven't even heard studio versions of 70% of the stuff out there. BTW I thought VLVODAAHF was a very solid effort and I was far from moved by it first listen.

How do you be a comma and not a full stop
Yikes then I guess I do hate Coldplay...They don't have very funny fans at all.

How do you be a comma and not a full stop
I get that from all your posts on this forum...I'm sure many agree. Silly is great in moderation. In excess its just annoying...

How do you be a comma and not a full stop
I'm a guy who thinks that if you truly respect the band members you wouldn't criticize and ridicule them with ridiculous posts. I'm pretty certain these forums are read by members of the Coldplay team. Constructive criticism is just fine, you don't like the song... I get it...but constant ridicule isn't constructive. I'm sorry your job is trite and pointless. The world awaits your superior songwriting ability with pure anticipation....
