February 4, 200917 yr Australian rock promoter Michael Chugg has been named international promoter of the year at a global music touring conference. The veteran promoter saw off worldwide competition, including industry giants Live Nation and AEG Live, to take out the prestigious award at the 2009 Pollstar Awards in the United States on Friday. Chugg was the only Australian promoter to be nominated in the awards, which are presented at the annual Concert Industry Consortium conference in Los Angeles. He said he was thrilled to have received the most votes to claim the gong. "I'd like to thank the staff of Live Nation and AEG for voting for me," Chugg said with a wry smile during his acceptance speech. It is the second time Chugg has won the title - the first was in 2000, the year after he founded Sydney-based Chugg Entertainment.
