Acoustic-Electro Acoustic?

Featured Replies

Hey all.

I'm a guitar player who has been playing now for 5 years.

I'm bored with just my acoustic (and electric).

I play in a band and I want to be able to plug my acoustic in an amp so I can move about.

Unfortunately my acoustic is only acoustic (that means no electronics involved) so this won't happen right now.

Does anyone know how (or where I can go within the west end of Glasgow, Scotland) I can achieve turning my acoustic into an electro-acoustic which can be plugged into an amp?

I think this means I don't want just an acoustic pickup, apparently they're rubbish!

Thanks in advance.

3 ways:

you need a preamp and an under-saddle piezo pickup (= the ones that are no rubbish). your local guitar shop should have these and for some money, you don't have to cut your guitar yourself so they will built them in.

pro: sounds perfect; con: your guitar needs to be irreversibly modified

but you can also buy a magnetic pickup that can be pushed into the hole of your guitar

pro: put it on and off as you like; con: i suppose that's what you mean by "rubbish"

the last method would be buying a small instrument microphone that can be clipped at the hole of your guitar. then you get the real sound and you can plug it into your amp & walk around

Get a Dean Markley pickup. I have one. http://www.deanmarkley.com/Pickups/Pickups.shtml

It slides into your guitar like so:

...and provides great and reliable and rich, full sound replication and it is durable. I have been using one for a while now for gigs and have been very pleased. Plus they're fairly cheap and easy to remove and replace.
