If you are still sticking to your New Year resolutions, you're part of a valiant but rapidly shrinking minority.

For 83 per cent of your fellow resolvers have already admitted defeat, according to research.

Four out of ten failed to make it past midnight on January 2.

Britons make an average of 1.14 resolutions each New Year, says a study by the dairy spread brand Clover.

Regionally, the Welsh, Londoners and people in the East Midlands and South East England are best at keeping them, at least into February.

The survey revealed that Britons were planning to spice up the start of a new decade by getting saucy and seductive.

One in five said they planned to have more sex in 2010 while 10 per cent promised to wear only sexy underwear.

Some of the more unusual resolutions included giving up cracking knuckles and not playing games on Facebook.

Nathan King from Clover said: 'Most people either don't make resolutions at all or make overambitious ones they soon find they can't keep.'
