The Northern Star, the all student-produced, independent media from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, has produced an article claiming that Coldplay's Chris Martin is not deserving of rock 'god' status. You can reply to the author here. The article reads as follows:   Sure, Coldplay might dominate Billboard charts and receive wide-critical praise, but is front-man Chris Martin the rock and roll god he’s made out to be?   If he is, I will gladly go to the rock and roll gallows as

Talent borrows, genius steals, they say. On the evidence given when Coldplay were accused of plagiarism this week, we can conclude that the band are neither talented nor geniuses (but we know they are both).   The unknown Brooklyn singer Andrew Hoepfner and his band Creaky Boards have posted a video online claiming similarities between their track The Songs I Didn't Write and Coldplay's Viva La Vida (watch the two videos here). Hoepfner suggests Chris Martin was in the audience of a show he perf

Matthew, Mark, Luke and John? How about Moses, Malachi, Jerusha and Asher?   When actress Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay singer Chris Martin decided to name their newborn son Moses, it commanded attention almost as much as the name of the baby's older sister, Apple.   Did his parents name him for the song that appears on the Coldplay DVD "Live 2003"? Or did they just want a biblical name that was different, something beyond Matthew, Mark, Luke and John? Are more parents now looking for such names?

In 2004...   Paul McCartney, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Robbie Williams, Keane, Snow Patrol, Travis, The Darkness and others took part in the recording of a new version of “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” A highlight of the session was U2’s Bono reprising his immortal line, “Tonight thank God it’s them instead of you.”   Bono, Paul McCartney and George Michael were the only artists from the original Band Aid who had been asked back to lend their voices to Band Aid 20. There was a reported dispute ov

Take a novelty record, infuse it with the perfect holiday timing, toss in a bit of "Fresh Air" and, voila, What I Like About Jew has its first hit.   The duo -- Rockapella founder/former leader Sean Altman and Blender magazine music editor Rob Tannenbaum -- self-released its debut album, "Unorthodox," April 10. Chris Martin, is one of the world’s biggest rock stars, a species for whom tardiness is all but a right. Yet he was full of apologies when he popped through the door of a Midtown Manhattan restaurant, no entourage in sight, for a recent interview with the NYTimes this week. “I’m sorry I’m late,” he blurted, wearing a slightly stained “Don’t Mess With Texas” T-shirt and loudly colored sneakers, though he had no sunglasses, hat or any other means of celebrity disguise.   But Mr. Martin was actuall

Oasis and Coldplay tribute bands Noasis and Coldplace have embarked in a war of words with each other ahead of this Sunday’s outdoor Jedi Festival. The two tribute acts have followed in the footsteps of their idols, by both claiming they will steal the show at Southport’s Victoria Park, writes ItsGoodToBeFree.com.   Shane Crofts aka Chris Martin said, “We don’t like to blow our own trumpet, we leave it to the crowd to decide how good we are – but we have played all over the world. We’ve played w

The volatile Oasis siblings Noel and Liam Gallagher are still locked in a bitter feud after the singer claimed six-year-old Anais isn't Noel's biological daughter.   The Wonderwall hitmakers were playing gigs in Barcelona, Spain, in 2000 when Liam claimed Noel's ex-wife Meg Matthews had duped him into taking on someone else's child. And the pair have yet to settle their argument. Noel says, "Has he apologised? Has he fuck. He should be ashamed of himself, but he isn't of course. The man is 33 ye

Here is Oasis singer Liam Gallagher as you have never heard him before, digging out his soul and discussing fashion, Coldplay, Susan Boyle and the joys of Twitter in a startling face-to-face interview with CityLife journalist David Sue. Here's what he had to say about Coldplay in an interview with MEN CityLife, and in particular, their dress sense:   "These days, all the geezers in bands wanna look like women. Like, why's everyone in bands wearing braces? If you're gonna wear braces, try buying

When it comes to promotional material, the good old BBC beats everyone hands down. Some PR people attempt to bribe journalists with T shirts (too big, invariably) or miserly quantities of alcohol.   But back in February 2006, bright sparks in the Doctor Who marketing team sent out time machines! It's caused chaos, frankly, with critics using the technology to zip forward in time, returning to file reviews of Coldplay's fourth album before the band have started making it, or reveal what Lost is a

"Another Ode, Ode to Deodorant. It's my favourite hygiene, it keeps me through the day".   These are the lyrics of "Ode To Deodorant", the first song performed by Coldplay as an ensemble, in 1998. It was released as a double A-side demo cassette tape for local concert promoters by Phil Harvey, the band's original manager. The second A-side, "Brothers & Sisters" went on to become one of Coldplay's early staples.   Ode was recorded in the same sessions as the Safety EP. In total they had 8 s

EMI has suffered a decline in its market share of US album sales in the second quarter, which could undermine its position in a pound stg. 2.5 billion ($6.2 billion) two-way takeover battle with Warner Music [pictured].   EMI, which manages artists including Coldplay and Janet Jackson, has seen its album sales decline 8 per cent year-on-year, and the company has lost 0.4 percentage points to 10 per cent in US market share, according to data from Nielsen SoundScan.   In contrast, Warner Music's

It is now the done thing for climate-conscious companies and consumers, but carbon offsetting is by no means straightforward and its effectiveness is far from certain.   A romantic trip to Barbados would probably make most Londoners’ Valentine’s Day. And now couples can enjoy their visit to the Caribbean with consciences as clean as the water washing tropical beaches. Why? Because just £14 buys something very special – a holiday that promises not to harm the planet.   The company behind this at

Originally scheduled to perform in Oklahoma City on July 10, Coldplay finally roll their “Viva La Vida” North American Tour into the Ford Center on Sunday, Nov. 16, with special guests John Hopkins and Sleepercar in tow. Due to production delays, Coldplay had to postpone several summer shows on the tour. Tickets already purchased for the July 10 date will be honored on Nov. 16.   Meanwhile, the British hitmakers' fourth album, “Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends,” has sold more than 5 mi

Crowd: Estimated 20,000.   Top highlight: In an evening full of highlights, "Viva la Vida” was one of the crowd’s favorites, reports NewsOK. Lead singer Chris Martin was almost evangelical, dancing and twirling around the stage, conducting the crowd and his fans, ending the song lying on the stage as the crowd sang his final notes.   Reviewer’s take: Coldplay impressed and energized its Oklahoma City audience playing many favorites from its long career, including "Clocks,” "Fix You,” and many fr

claxson on the Coldplaying multimedia forums has very kindly re-uploaded a bunch of old school Coldplay concerts (Audio recordings). The list is growing larger by the day and there are some real gems in there. Some haven't been seen since the time of the concert and go as far back as 1999!   We've been listening to the old school concerts and have picked out some of the highlights, placing them on our Youtube channel. These live renditions have a different feel to them from many other performan

Coldplay didn't let down its fans Saturday night, even if frontman Chris Martin said he was nervous about it. Most in their teens and 20s, more than 11,000 people showed up at Qwest Center Omaha on Saturday night to see the Grammy-winning British quartet, writes the Omaha World Herald.   Making stops all over the world, the group has been on its “Viva La Vida” tour since nearly a year ago. “I don't know why it's taken us so long to get to Nebraska. We must have been nervous,” frontman Chris Mart

Savers shiver, bankers bluster, politicians prattle.   Elsewhere in the news, a new music radio station was launched at 7.45 yesterday morning. Absolute Radio used to be Virgin. Virgin, owned and launched by Richard Branson in 1993, has never been a success except to its successive owners. It has changed hands for millions and millions of pounds. In terms of ratings and revenue it's never lived up to its potential.   It was, after all, the first national commercial pop network, one of the three

Chris Martin gave Coldplay fans quite a start last month when he announced at the Brit Awards: "We won't see you for a long time." COLDPLAY QUIT, the headlines screamed. This was news to the British rock 'n' roll quartet, left scrambling to deny rumors of its demise.   "The thing about becoming a bigger band is your statements get made to be bigger than they really are," Martin says.   The guitar-strumming, keyboard-playing singer and his sidekicks -- guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berry

Coldplay is a musical giant. But selling millions of albums and winning a pile of Grammys hasn't turned members of the band into egomaniac rock stars. While on tour, they spend their time doing things like any average Joe, writes the Omaha World-Herald.   “Often we have our families with us and that keeps us very busy. We play soccer. We read. We do all the things that everyone else does,” said Coldplay drummer Will Champion. The group's “Viva La Vida” tour stops in Omaha on Saturday.   “Viva La

Glastonbury The Film is on its way to a cinema near you, thanks to Orange and Sony Ericsson.   The film, the first to provide a unique insight into the ‘ultimate’ live music festival, will be launched in key towns across the UK in April, supported by live acoustic sets.   Since the first Glastonbury Festival was held four decades ago in 1970, this semi-annual event has grown into the UK’s biggest music going extravaganza, frequented by some of the biggest bands in the world. Musicians featured
