Poor Chris Martin. He's been sitting pretty at the top of album and singles charts the world over in recent weeks, and yet he's still suffering accusations from inventive YouTubers suggesting his best-selling songs are rip-offs. First came a fine piece of self-publicity by Brooklyn indie band Creaky Boards, who suggested Martin had come to see them and copied their song The Songs I Didn't Write for Coldplay's Number 1 single Viva La Vida. No one quite believed Creaky Boards, as it soon emerge

Dear Oracle, At the Rock Am Ring festival Coldplay performed a new song called Charlie Brown. My question is: who is he, and why has Coldplay dedicated this song to him? Digital Spy have reviewed Coldplay's new single, Princess Of China - and have given it full marks - 5 stars out of 5. More discussion on this review is at the PoC sub-forum now. Read on for the review... [thanks Tash] Digital Spy: Although Coldplay were on a mission to make Mylo Xyloto their most pop-oriented collection of material to date, we were still shocked when it was announced that they were to team up with Rihanna on a track. Partly because the band had never collaborated with another

Following the release of Coldplay's new video in midweek, attention now turns to the digital bundle single release at the end of the month. Here is DigitalSpy's review of 'Life in Technicolor ii'. I don't think they like it. (3/5 stars): The original 'Life In Technicolor' appeared as a hushed instrumental intro to last summer's Viva La Vida LP. Imbued with a distinct world music vibe, it was an intriguing opener that captured Coldplay at their most serene. The track was revisited at the album'

Tim McGraw has sparked rumours that Chris Martin has been taking influence from country music, after revealing that his wife Faith Hill recently wrote a number of songs with the Coldplay frontman, claim DigitalSpy today. The two families are known to have become close after McGraw starred opposite Martin's wife Gwyneth Paltrow in the recently-released film Country Strong. Actress Gwyneth Paltrow will think twice about renting a romantic getaway home for her and husband Chris Martin after a recent dream break turned into a nightmare. The 33-year-old star decided to treat Chris Martin [pictured with Paltrow, left] to a two-week break in East Hampton, New York, after he completed Coldplay’s North American summer (2005) tour and rented a palatial ocean-side property without checking it out first. She recalls, “The place was filthy when we got here. I went to use

Carl Barat has criticised the decision by Coldplay this week to release their new single for free online. 'Violet Hill' has been available to download completely free from Tuesday at coldplay.com, and will be withdrawn on Tuesday, when it goes on general sale. The band had hoped following in the footsteps of Radiohead and Nine inch Nails, both of whom released music for free in recent months, would drum up interest in their forthcoming fourth album 'Vida La Vida'. However, Dirty Pretty Things

Ten days after Dirty Pretty Things frontman Carl Barat criticised the decision by Coldplay to release their new single for free online, they've followed suit by making 'Hippy Son', a song from their forthcoming second album, 'Romance At Short Notice', available to download free. Barat [pictured] was quoted as saying, "You could say they (Coldplay) were jumping on the bandwagon a bit. You can't escape the fact that big name, big money bands who release their stuff for free are harming the scene

The Pub that launched rock sensations Coldplay and Suede is set to be turned into flats - to the dismay of local residents. The Falcon Pub, Royal College Street, Camden, which had held rock gigs on its premises since the early 1970s, closed down three years ago to make way for a community centre - but locals had hoped that it would one day be reverted back to its former glory. Coldplay had their breakthrough there on December 7 1998, after being spotted by record producer Simon Williams and

There are certain things in life that stay with you for the rest of your days. No matter how far you get away from them, the moment you encounter items intractably connected with them, that's it: you're thrown back decades as memories come flooding back. I had such a moment late last year; while Proust had his Madeleine bun, I had an advert. I had my back to the telly, but the music - a full orchestra intoning great dark chords - was enough. "Dah Dah Dah! Dah Dah Dah!" A mixture of terror and ex

Thanks to Debs at the official site for the alert: Hi Some jerk is trying to sell the Mince Spies Cd & 4 Coldplayground fanzines for a ludicrous £1,800! That's like a zero too much! There's no starting bid, that's a buy it nowprice and absolutely unbelievable. He seems to think that it's an investment and the price will go up. I very much doubt it will ever reach this price in value, so please don't think this is a good pension idea. The Cd has been known to fetch anywhere between £100-200

U2 and Coldplay and are strongly rumoured to be headlining the Friday (24th) and Sunday (26th) nights respectively, but there have been question marks over who will bring the Pyramid Stage to a close on the Saturday (25th)... until now. Rumours that The Rolling Stones are set to headline Glastonbury Festival 2011 alongside Coldplay and U2 have been fuelled after the group's infamous Tongue and Lip Design image appeared on a Somerset website.
