The Rolling Stones are fighting it out with James Blunt to score their first UK number one album since 1994’s Voodoo Lounge.   Retail reports suggest the band’s newly-issued Virgin album A Bigger Bang is slightly ahead of James Blunt’s Atlantic-issued Back To Bedlam as the band look to achieve their 11th UK chart-topper, the highest for any group bar The Beatles.   The Stones are likely to be joined in this Sunday’s Top 20 by fellow Sixties survivor Bob Dylan whose No Direction Home soundtrack t

The cover art on Fleet Foxes' self-titled debut album has won the Best Art Vinyl Award for 2008.   The artwork on Roots Manuva's 'Slime And Reason' came second in the Art Vinyl poll, while Coldplay's 'Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends' [pictured] was third. The cover on Fleet Foxes album, which was praised by critics, features an exert of Pieter Bruegel's painting, Netherlandish Proverbs. A selection of the most popular covers are due to go on display at Rough Trade East in London later

He's certainly healthy enough, what with his and Gwynnie's macrobiotic, teetotal lifestyles.   But Chris Martin's on-stage acrobatics proved he's probably good enough to join the circus.   The singer, doubtless thrilled that Coldplay picked up two gongs, went all topsy-turvy as he belted out hit tune Square One - much to the delight of the audience. One Brits guest said: "His antics topped an absolutely storming set by Coldplay. It was probably one of the best seen at the event in a long time. T

Flowing in the Dark - New Xylobands revealed!   It was a core part of Coldplay's Mylo Xylotour when they won the hearts of millions. It may be assumed to be part of history as Coldplay take a break from the gigantic stadiums they were so accustomed to touring in favour of smaller, intimate venues for their Ghost Stories show, such as the upcoming LA show at the Ace Hotel on 17th September but they are here to stay and seem certain to be involved in future groundbreaking Coldplay concerts!

Chris Martin angered members of the Foo Fighters' camp at the Isle of Wight festival.   Tensions over the billing at the Fuji Rocks festival in 2005 continued last weekend, leading to Martin [pictured] being branded a "cry baby".   "Comments were made by Chris and it's really hacked off some of the Foos people," a source told the Daily Star. "Apparently he mentioned something about the billing again and he was seen as being a bit precious. Now he's being referred to as a 'cry baby' and a 'bit of

For some, it's the skull ring he wears on one of his recent albums that gives him away. For others, it's the guitar pick that ranchera singer Pepe Aguilar uses to play the metal strings on his instrument. It's a subtle yet striking detail for an artist who appears on the covers of his album dressed as a charro, surrounded by mariachis, horses and tequila. The truth is, this singer has a rock 'n' roll soul.   Sure, Aguilar can talk for hours about ranchera music, especially about his famous pare

Coldplay singer auctions private gig for school   Chris Martin has put his services up for sale to the highest bidder. The Coldplay frontman has offered to play a private gig for whoever wins an auction being held in aid of his local school. Martin will play one song for Cannonbury Primary School's Auction Of Promises, which takes place tomorrow (May 18).   The Coldplay frontman will "perform one of the band's songs in your own front room", however there is a stipulation - "a piano must be provi

Playing professionally for nearly 30 years, folk-rock legend Steve Forbert says he's glad of his success, but is relieved he isn't a star.   Catching up with Forbert during a studio-recording session in his hometown of Nashville, things aren't going exactly as planned. His engineer, Tim Coates, accidentally recorded the demos they'd been working on in the wrong key.   Studio time, especially in a place like Nashville, can be expensive. But there's no label lording over Forbert to keep costs do

Madonna is the Top Earning Musician of the year with about $110 million in profits, according to Forbes magazine. The total is based upon her touring, recording and endorsement earnings from June 2008 to June 2009.   Two other female artists follow Madge in the top five: Céline Dion ($100 million) and Beyoncé Knowles ($87 million). LOS ANGELES (February 1, 2007) -- Idol schmidle. Despite reports claiming Courtney Love had been asked to join the ever-popular talent search program, and later statements the offer was false, the singer's real news lies across the pond.   Before the judging can even begin on the Simon-Randy-Paula fronted show, Access has exclusively learned the rocker will head to Britain to finish her second solo album with one of Coldplay's album mixers, Danton Supple.   A source close to the star told Acces

John Gibson (Fox News) wrote this article following Chris Martin's outburst at shareholders, calling them the greatest evil on earth. Here is what Mr Gibson said in return:   A Rush of Blood to the Head? Thursday, May 19, 2005 By John Gibson   This is a little monologue Thursday on how good it is to be rich. And maybe how good it is to be young, rich and famous.   Take the singer Chris Martin (search) from the pop music band Coldplay (search). He's also the husband of Gwyneth Paltrow — every

Coldplay have been nominated for seven Grammys this Sunday, and Viva La Vida is tipped to win big as is the album it comes from.   However Fox News are reporting today that Coldplay may be looking over their shoulders this Grammy weekend. The reason is that a lawyer representing musician Joe Satriani is sending teams of process servers all over town to hand them a plagiarism lawsuit. Satriani filed a copyright infringement suit in Los Angeles on December 4, one day after Coldplay was nominated f

Coldplay only catapulted to superstardom because of Scottish band Travis' groundwork, their frontman claims.   Fran Healy is adamant his group's hit 1999 album The Man Who helped forge a demand for similar music. He says, "(We) created a playing pitch for bands like Coldplay and the other dozens of groups who came after The Man Who to sell not just hundreds and thousands of records, but millions of records."   But Healy's rant didn't end there as he launched a scathing tirade against politicians

Courtesy of Domino Records, you can now download the track which bookends Coldplay's album. Here's Anchorman with more details:   At either end of Coldplay's current album, you can hear a snippet of a track called Light Through The Veins by Jon Hopkins, the band's friend, collaborator and frequent support act. That track will be released in full on Hopkins' terrific new album, Insides, on May 4th. But its nine minutes of electro loveliness are currently available to download for free by clicking

Forget “pay what you want.” The new model for the music industry may be “pay it forward.”   Coldplay has become the latest band to discover that giving away your music - even a little bit for a little time - may, in the long run, end up being worth more than the conventional model of only selling it.   To drum up publicity for its new single, “Violet Hill,” which was released last week, the band decided to give it away for a week on its Web site as a free download. On the first day it was avail

Square One: Probable first single. Built around a subtle electronic drum beat reminiscent of Brian Eno or Berlin-period Bowie, the song builds into a huge chorus featuring massive guitars and organ. Like Radioheads Paranoid Android it's perplexing on the first listen and appears to go off on different tangents, but after a few spins it sounds like their most ambitious and possibly best song yet.   What If: Starting with a simple piano, a fragile-sounding Chris sings, " What if you decide/You d
