The former Stone Roses frontman also accuses Coldplay of ripping off other artists on the latest album X&Y. Brown says, "It (Speed of Sound) sounds so like Echo & The Bunnymen, it amazes me how they've got away with it. "I can't stand the way the guy sells millions of albums, plays stadiums, marries a Hollywood star (Gwyneth Paltrow) and c

Simon Cowell's operatic quartet Il Divo shot straight to number one in the US album charts today. Their second album, Ancora, knocked Jamie Foxx off the top of the Billboard Top 100. The US market is notoriously difficult to crack for British recording artists. Only a small group, including the Beatles, Elton John, U2, Led Zeppelin and Coldplay, have gone straight to number one. On a Saturday night in late February, Coldplay are in their North London headquarters, listening to mixes of new songs. After spending months writing and recording with producer Brian Eno, the band is now painstakingly wrapping up its fourth album, Viva la Vida or Death And All His Friends. A few weeks ago, Eno jetted off to work on U2’s new disc, leaving Coldplay to mix, record overdubs and argue over which tracks to include. “I heard a Bono quote once that said, ‘Bands shouldn’t break up over

Bono shaking hands with Tony Blair. For me it was one of the most memorable images of last year, appearing on the cover of Phoenix magazine during the G8 protests of 2005. Watching MTV's Cribs today brought the idea home with even greater force than ever before. These days, Intellectual Property Capitalists like Bono, Chris Martin of Coldplay and Thom Yorke of Radiohead are among the wealthiest and most visible of todays ruling class. The cult of celebrity has become inescapable with the expl
