Last week we opened up a new poll asking you when you thought we might hear a new single from Coldplay - before, during or after the forthcoming festivals. It was quickly apparent that we were likely to be heading for some news on a single release before Coldplay's first festival appearance in Germany at the weekend.   We had well over 1100 votes in before the announcement and now we know what the answer really is we wanted to share the results with you: 42% of you thought correctly that we woul

If the voters in our latest poll manage to get on to the jury in the Coldplay/Satriani case, our boys from London will have nothing to worry about. So far, 70% of you suggested that Satriani's song did "lack originality", which seemed to reflect the analysis of the clip we posted a few days back. Voting continues.  Howard E King, Satriani's lawyer, called Coldplay's response "typical" for copyright infringement cases. This criticism is hardly damning, but then again King is not trying to make

LONDON - Classic hits by the Beatles and David Bowie will challenge the likes of Beyoncé, Coldplay and Leona Lewis for the No 1 spot when the singles chart opens up to golden oldies.   With Top of the Pops dead, and downloading mums and dads revitalising the music market, the Top 40 chart will undergo the most far-reaching change in its 54-year history on New Year’s Day. A “single” will no longer mean a physical item, be it vinyl — EPs count — or a CD, bought in stores. Any song from pop’s archi

Some of 2005's blockbusters were knockoffs that traded expansive thoughts for petty ones. Coldplay, the English band that's openly eager to become "the next U2," came up with more of its grand, chiming, would-be anthems, only to ruin them with lyrics unworthy of the music's splendors.   Like a cheesy self-help guru, Coldplay inflates listeners' vague fears and insecurities, then offers itself as a panacea: "I will fix you," Chris Martin vowed.   Read the full article here

Beg your pardon, but would you mind if we, well, took over the world? Quietly and politely, Coldplay has become one of the biggest musical acts on the planet. They did it with some dreamy piano pop, a sensitive, falsettoed frontman, and that U.K. magic that's worked for the likes of the Beatles, U2 and Radiohead, writes The Seattle Times, ahead of this weekend's shows in Portland and George.   Coldplay has been accused of being bland, even yawn-inducing (a British TraveLodge poll voted them the

Mostly unaware that they were about to be part of the largest concert in Clark County history, a buoyant mob equal to the population of Battle Ground turned out Friday to see the biggest British band since — hey, to hear a few fans tell it, since the big one, writes The Columbian.   They wore sundresses, shredded jeans or Coldplay T-shirts. They braved scalpers, a hail forecast and $8 cups of Miller Lite for a few hours in the sun and a finale under the stars. With pop music splintering into sub

Insanely bad covers have been commonplace around popular bands of all genres. Coldplay are no different.   A dodgy cover of The Scientist has been recorded by Johnette Napolitano and Danny Lohner - you can download/listen to it here [right click - save target as..]   Let us know what you think of the cover - if you have any other covers you want to put up here please email me the links!

For Coldplay singer Chris Martin, there’s more to life than chart-toppers .   "Our goal is to take over from U2," Coldplay's Chris Martin said during lunch in a funky beachfront restaurant in Malibu. The comment was so audacious that he quickly moved to put it in context.   "I don't mean 'take over' in a commercial sense or careerist sense, but in writing songs that move people in a big way. When I'm in a crowd of thousands of people singing a song I love, I get the best feeling - a sense of ge

Make plans to flee town while you can. There are black holes that suck less than this lineup. How much vile Limey crapness can one venue stand? If you don't know why Coldplay are evil, then you're evil. You also like James Blunt, U2, Morrissey and Travis. And you think the stuff on sale at Pier 1 is "classy." Ex-Verve singer "Grizzly" Dick Ashcroft once boasted to the NME that he was "in the same room" as the Beatles and Hendrix. And so he is. "Hey, boy! Move your arse! More tea and biscuits-cho

Pop legend Prince is reportedly set to re-form the New Power Generation and make a surprise appearance at this week's Brit Awards.   According to a report in the News Of The World, the singer has been confirmed to perform at Wednesday's ceremony at Earl's Court in London.   The report claims the singer will play three tracks, but has not yet decided which hits from his back catalogue to include in his set.   Brit Awards organisers have still not confirmed Prince's appearance, but claim there

Private equity group Terra Firma has succeeded in its bid to buy music firm EMI, the BBC has learned. Ninety percent of EMI shareholders agreed to the £2.4bn takeover offer by the UK company, controlled by buyout specialist Guy Hands.   This means the remaining shareholders are now obliged to accept the 265p-per-share offer. EMI's artists include Joss Stone, Lily Allen, Coldplay, Robbie Williams and the Chemical Brothers.   The bid had been repeatedly extended, but eventually shareholders were

We're close to hitting 500 votes for our latest poll, in which we asked you for your Favourite Coldplay.com 'Entity' from the LP4 era. So far the results are below - and they couldn't be closer. The Oracle needs votes because out in front currently neck and neck are Prospekt and Roadie #42, and with the European tour just around the corner Roadie is gathering momentum for a vicious assault on the poll results, exacerbated by Prospekt's lack of updates. You can continue to add to the voting tally
