LP8 Thread - Everyday Life
The thing about the track listing is that the titles totally sound like something Coldplay would do. Like very artsy and unique. I mean if you told me it was fake, I wouldn't be surprised, but it's very believable. Especially with the timing and everything... like I'm pretty sure that individual "leaked" the track listing, and then shortly after, we see photos of the boys shooting a music video that sort of/kind of fits the theme of the song titles. Idk... remains to be seen but I wouldn't be surprised either way (if the whole Fool's Gold thing is truly gold or fool's gold...)

My thoughts went straight to that ending scene of the film. That wasn't just thrown in the film for nothing. That was definitely a nugget of information for the true fans. I'm usually very wary of rumors like this, but we've had rumors from at least two different sources of radio stations indicating Coldplay would release music in the next month, and now this bit from the Daily Star (the writer seems to have an in with high profile musicians) , and the double album thing lining up with the end of the film... I think this is more than just a rumor. Plus the band are together in LA and have been recording since the end of last year...

A report today from the somewhat unreliable "Daily Star" that Coldplay are set to release an experimental album by the end of November, followed by a more popular sounding album in 2020. There is a really a lot of steam starting to build about Coldplay dropping music fairly imminently...

I can assure you Guy, Will, Phil and presumably Jonny are not in Malibu just for some birthday cake with Dakota... It's pretty obvious at this point they are recording and gearing up for a release.

Let's not forget Chris always says some dumb stuff every time they release an album like the band is ending or it's their last real album. We have been confirmed in multiple ways that they have been recording over the last year or so. And it sounds like they are recording in LA as we speak. We will almost definitely be getting new music soon. It sounds like it could even be as soon as this year, according to these radio station rumors and what not.

I'll trust Mat Whitecross saying Chris is in and out of the studio writing songs every day over a nonsensical tabloid rumor :joy: You can't seriously believe Guy, Jonny or Will have gone to a tabloid newspaper and expressed their disappointment in Chris... Beyond this, Chris has described in multiple interviews his lengthy notes on his phones of inspiration he gets for music every day... and how ever since he started the band he would quite often get a rush of inspiration and run to a piano or guitar and flesh out a song. Sometimes in the middle of the night. He wrote the bones of Clocks, Paradise, Viva La Vida and countless others in a matter of 10 minutes off a whirlwind of inspiration.

Omg I can't believe he played this! Best part of this is how good he still sounds. Incredible.

Based on Guy's comments in that magazine a couple years ago, he said they agreed on "around a 1 year break of no writing or recording" after AHFOD tour ended, which they had never done before I don't think. At least not that long. From what I remember, there were no sightings of the band together whatsoever between Nov 2017 and December 2018, then suddenly they were spotted all together in December 2018 like signing things and probably plotting and planning. Considering Dave Holmes said they would take their time to come back with something really special, it's probably more like 14-18 months of recording from that December 2018 date (which was 1 year after AHFOD). So then that would put recording ending around Feb 2020-June 2020, and then a release couple months later? Another variable in this is that obviously 95% of the songs (or more) start with Chris, and despite not writing or recording for 1 year, Chris obviously is writing songs all the time. So they must have plenty of material to work off of, it's just a matter of picking good songs and putting it all together into a coherent album that is fresh.

Ah you're right, that was more of an LP8 post. I'm still orienting myself on the new site format having not been around much lol But it's nice to see everyone is still lurking around. I'm sure everyone will be back in full force when the band is together and promoting again. I know I will be!

It's been a while since I've been on here. I'm a bit surprised how quiet this year has been on the band's part... I expected some more rumblings about the band performing next year or dropping an album next year. Next year will be 5 years since AHFOD (holy ****!!) But it's really nice to see they've been recording together over the last year or so. I'd have to think that we will see things start to pick up a bit over the next couple months, now that the summer is over and kids are back at school and such. Here's to hoping we get a new single, at the very least, before the year's end. And then an album in the middle of 2020 and a Glastonbury 50 performance and a tour after that! Wishful thinking? (Or maybe not) But I genuinely feel they have something special up their sleeves, which is why they are taking a lot of careful time (along with, of course, spending valuable extended time with family that they've never really had before). I can only imagine the amount of inspiration and ideas Chris has accumulated over the last few years... I've really been trying to stop listening to the band for several months now so I'm not sick of the music when they do eventually come back and I have to listen to all 8 albums and EPs and b-sides on repeat...

Guys :joy: come on... This is not a "goodbye" tweet (what does that even mean?) Coldplay have been up to something. They have been recording for several months now. Did everyone just forget that the band have been recording in Paris and London and LA this year? Or that Mat Whitecross said they are "hatching something"? Or that Jonny told a fan that they will be back soon? Or that Dave Holmes said they are going to have to come back with something really special and have a couple more albums under contract? ~Don't panic~ The best art takes time and hard work.

Long time.....
It's very possible, but I was always under the impression that Los Unidades was strictly something that gave Chris more creative freedom and control, specifically for Global Citizen, with the rest of the band contributing very minimally. I feel like it's more of an ownership/copyright thing rather than a full-on new project for Coldplay, in order to give Chris some extra freedom while still involving the band somehow if they want to be involved. My guess is Chris wrote and fleshed out those songs with Pharell, Stormzy, all the other features, etc, then maybe emailed the track to Will/Jonny/Guy to add a drum or guitar or bass line. I think anytime the 4 members are together in a studio for a week at a time, it's strictly Coldplay. Los Unidades probably did not involve the 4 members in a studio together, but rather something like Chris texting and saying "Hey Jonny, I'm doing this thing with Pharrell and Global Citizen, can you have a listen and see what you can do with it?" Then Jonny writes a guitar line and sends it back. Pure speculation, but that's what it felt like.

Long time.....
Essentially here's what we know: -We've been told by their manger Dave Holmes they won't be touring again until at least 2021, and that they are under contract for a couple more albums -The band have been spotted together in roughly week intervals at the Bakery a few times, starting last December -They've been recording music in recent months in both LA and London (and presumably individually/remotely) -Mat Whitecross (long time associate with the band and filmmaker) said Coldplay are "hatching" something No one really knows the timetable at this point for a release, but Chris said they are going to be "full of surprises" at the end of their last show in November 2017. Therefore, they could release something tomorrow, or next summer, or not until 2021...who knows. But they are definitely working on something, and Dave Holmes said they will take their time as they need to come back with something "really special". But I would be very shocked if we didn't see something from the band between now and the end of 2020... especially with Glastonbury 50 next year and the fact they have clearly been working quite a bit lately. A mid-late 2020 release, with some festival dates next summer perhaps, followed by a larger tour in 2021 seems like the most logical and likely scenario.

Hmm.. isn't it odd that this is the same timeline for Coldplay being back together in London this week? Instruments and equipment were seen being rolled into the Beehive (their piano was just being tuned recently), Chris and Jonny were seen together in London on April 29 at the Champions League game, then they weren't spotted for a couple days (presumably in the studio), they take Sunday off as Guy is seen at a car show, then back to work Monday? :eyes:

Conscious Pilot totally sounds like a Coldplay idea/theme. I would bet it's Coldplay, but it's a bit odd that Chris and Guy are not on it... yet. At the same time, a lot of these registered songs don't mean anything, it's just for copywriting purposes I believe, whether it's an actual released song or something from a YouTube video or the Game of Thrones project.

What is your favourite Coldplay song today?
Life in Technicolour ii can change my mood any day. Incredible song. Something about Guy's bassline is so moving too.

Not sure if anyone else was aware of this, but it appears from Guy's recent Instagram activity that he is a part owner/possible investor of this company- https://www.bamorganic.com

Best Coldplay song ever in your opinion + why
I've always considered Clocks (especially when performed live) to be the best Coldplay song. The hypnotic piano riff is so simple yet so powerful. The lyrics and melody really fit well together with the whole idea of urgency/time. It's really just an unbelievable song and I can never get sick of it. I feel every bit of it when watching it live and watching Chris perform it. There's something really special about the song that separates it even from the dozens of other incredible Coldplay songs, imo. But that's the beauty of Coldplay music, is that each song is like a different emotion. Some people connect to certain songs/emotions and others connect to different ones. With Clocks, there's something that I can't quite explain in that I feel the song 100%.

I feel like people who "hate" Coldplay are either 1. Very insecure with their music tastes and/or music is deeply engrained with their identity are so they are defensive about it to keep their image. 2. Haven't listened to more than a few songs by Coldplay that they've heard on the radio, and hop on the trend of other people who dislike the band even though they actually don't mind or even like some of their music. Having said that, I think the majority of people are just indifferent to the band. Their music hits a certain emotional nerve that only some people (some millions out of the billions of people on earth) relate to. A lot of people listen to music for complex instrumentals that require a lot of talent (like a band with someone who can shred the guitar), or music that is suitable for partying to. Coldplay's music generally fits neither of those categories. A lot of Britpop is very emotion based and not based in complexity.
