Why we have only 3 album with Dolby atmos?
After A Rush Of Blood To The Head was added as a Dolby Atmos mix, I thought it was going to be the start of all the Coldplay back catalogue being added. To be honest, the first two albums won't give the best results for an immersive surround experience since the band were replicating their live sound as a four piece. It isn't filled with overdubs and harmonies. From X&Y onwards, when the band spent more time in the studio working on their sound and harmonies, you'd think these albums would sound great in Dolby Atmos. I do prefer when the main vocals are on the centre speaker but not every remixer takes this approach. A Headful of Dreams was released as a 5.1 blu-ray, it would be nice if this and other titles were released on blu-ray with a Dolby Atmos mix and hi-res stereo.

Ode To Deodorant value?
There's a copy of the promo CD on e-bay at the moment for 50 Euro's. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Coldplay-Ode-to-Deorant-2-Tracks-Promo-Rare-Uk/171167309264?_trksid=p2050601.m2451&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D266%26meid%3D2711579488504562597%26pid%3D100103%26prg%3D1141%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D171167309264%26clkid%3D2711581610112657907&_qi=RTM1489587 You're probably thinking that's a good price for the rare CD promo. Now look at the seller's history and you'll find this. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Coldplay-Ode-Deorant-2-Tracks-Promo-Rare-Uk-/171148713591 Now, knowing how rare this promo CD is, what's the chance that someone has two copies of the promo to sell? It'll be interesting to see if further copies will be sold. As mentioned before, it's pretty easy to create fakes of this type of promo. If someone has a genuine copy, are there any signs to look for?

What is THE rarest Coldplay release?
You can catergorise these in two areas - promo and non promo releases. Promo releases will always be much rarer as they're made in lesser quantities for tv, radio, press etc. Even rarer than these are promo cassettes or CD's made for the purpose of listening back to a new recording. Some of these will include unreleased versions though some have been leaked others haven't been made public. There's an early promo cassette which ncludes an unreleased version of Shiver. Ode to Deodorant is another cassette promo that most people know about. Other promos include live unreleased concerts or radio broadcasts. Some of these CD's includes tracks not broadcast on radio. Non promo releases are releases that can be bought in shops by the general public. Some of the rarer Coldplay material are numbered vinyl editions, Non-UK issues with alternative picture sleeves and remixes. Some copies of the 'Safety EP' were sold in shops and 500 copies were pressed though it isn't the rarest recording, it certainly is the holy grail for most Coldplay collectors hence the price it commands in auction £500-£1200.

Charlie Brown Single Promotional Album/CD/Thing
This is how they work: Record companies in the UK (and some other countries) would issue promotional copies of forthcoming singles as a marketing tool to media outlets like the press, tv and radio. This gave them the opportunity to announce or play the next artists single in advance in the press and papers or on the radio. For record companies it meant keeping their artists in the spotlight and getting valuable air time to keep sales up of the artists latest single and album. As most fans already had the latest album, the record companies will sell singles with alternative b sides or tracks depending which format you purchase. In the US, sales of singles is less relevant hence why you can only find certain b sides / tracks in the UK (and some other countries) but companies will send promo copies to media outlets to gain radio airplay and hope to sell the album instead. In the heyday of the single, where singles would sell 50,000+ copies in the shops. The number of promo copies is tiny in comparism which made the promo version quite rare. Nowadays, less companies are selling hard copies of singles. Nevertheless, a promo copy is still valuable because it's not available to the public and the only place to get a hard copy (Not digital). So the public has to find it's own promo copy elsewhere. Since the birth of the internet, the lucky people who don't want their promo copy can sell them on sites like e-bay etc. Surplus stock can also make their way onto the net for sale.

Fake acetates
It doesn't help that the current batch of promo's are paper sleeves and not made of card. Unless you can see the CD manufacturer on an genuine promo, you're never going to tell what you have.

Fake acetates
Yes Denise, He may sell some legit stuff but I'm affraid he seems to be selling multiple copies of the most rarest of CD-r's. Look at the Radiohead 'rarities' promo he keeps selling. Fortunately I didn't pay over the odds for the CD I bought.

ETIAW CD promo
Thanks for the link. Have taken a look at the site which looks good. Will add some scans of some missng and other rare material when I get the opportunity. Another source for some rare material is from promo videos, many have complete concerts or TV shows.

ETIAW CD promo
If anyone has bought or been sent a copy of the UK promo from a reliable source, can they tell me if there's any markings on the CD or a brand name. It's easy these days to photocopy a paper sleeve and burn a silver cd-r with black text. I'm a bit dubious of a certain e-bay seller that seems to alway have a lot of rare Coldplay material up for sale so want to make sure I'm buying the genuine article.

.Coldplay-A.Rush.Of.Blood.To.The.Head-INSTRUMENTALS.PROMO...(eBay)
Yes it is common that instrumental promo's are available to the media like tv and radio for use as background music.

"What if" embossed promo?
There weren't many embossed sleeves produced so you could be looking to spend around $300 if one came onto the market. More common is the white label CD promo which looks home made but is a genuine promo.

.Coldplay-A.Rush.Of.Blood.To.The.Head-INSTRUMENTALS.PROMO...(eBay)
I believe the guy is selling CD-r copies. Look at his feedback and you can see how many previous copies the guy has sold. There's another copy on e-bay at the moment. If you going to buy a copy, don't get into a bidding war and pay over the odds. If someone has a genuine copy, can they let us know how to tell the genuine article from a fake. One clue maybe the type of disc used on a genuine version.

Promo video's
Anyone on the board have any Coldplay promo video's? Not the 1-track singles but concert, TV, news promo's. Most of these originate via Capital records in the US as a way of promoting the band in the early days. A few I have seen are: MTV $2 concert Vic Theater, Chicago Glastonbury Festival 2003 Olympia, France Music Max Sessions Are there any for some of the bands early webcasts?

Rare CD on e-bay
This rare promo was sold on e-bay this week. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130289113760&ssPageName=ADME:B:WNARL:GB:1123 I am sure in the coming months the seller will sell multiple copies of the CD as I've noticed him selling other CD-r acetates (fakes) after purchasing a genuine copy. If you see the item on sale on e-bay please post here and see if my hunch is correct.

tour tickets
Why no pre-sale? It's a pity there wasn't a pre-sale for tickets to those of us who are members over on the official Coldplay website. You only have to look at e-bay to see the number of people whose only interest in selling on their tickets for a profit. I've been able to buy tickets for other bands I've been to see a day early than it's been advertised. The only reason I can think that this didn't happen is if they are over subscribed by touts who roam all the websites. Anyone with any bright ideas for the real fans?
