Los Unidades
I just scrolled through the video of the Global Citizen Festival in Johannesburg and I realized that the songs on this EP are truly rooted in African music and thus well suited to be sung in South Africa. When Chris sang E-Lo together with Pharrell Williams it fitted the occasion, and the predominantly black audience responded well to it. The same with 'Timbuktu', which he sang together with Cassper Nyovest and Stormzy. Chris's voice fitted in with the voices of the other singers, but he really can't dance! He also played the piano to Kathey Musgraves 'Rainbow'. No mention was made of 'Los Unidades'. Chris opened the festival just saying 'I am Chris Martin', and Pharrell Williams introduced him as 'Chris Martin from Coldplay' . As a curator it is mainly up to him to contact the musicians for the festival. I think he did a great job choosing mainly 'African-sounding' music, because the audience seemed to like all the musicians. The EP by 'Los Unidades' will sell well in Africa. Besides, the anagram of 'Los Unidades' - which someone found our earlier, namely 'Unsold Songs' - might well have been in Coldplay's mind. As it is a charity EP, they won't get money for it.

I think Will, Jonny and Guy just don't like the music on that EP. It's more Chris's type of music. So they are not keen on performing these songs at such an important event.

Obviously only Chris is going to play in Johannisburg: Coldplay’s manager Dave Holmes commented on the new song: “It was a real honour to help further the Global Citizen movement by putting together this release alongside Chris and Parlophone. We’ve ended up with so many incredible performers, and we’re all extremely proud of the finished EP. May it be the first of many.”

Los Unidades
I think this EP and the song E-lo were exclusively released to raise money for the Global Citizens concert in Johannisburg. It only serves a charity fundraising purpose and has not that much to do with Coldplay. Chris signed up with Global Citizens for 15 years, as he explained on German TV last year. His job is to find out where the next Global Citizens event is going to take place and invite musicians to play there. The band as a whole has not signed up with Global Citizens. All the four of them have their own charities they support besides having their common charities like 'Make Trade Fair'. Chris sometimes takes part in the event together with the rest of the band (Coldplay), sometimes without the band. Then he sings together with other artists. In Johannisburg only Chris is going to sing. The Name of 'Los Unidades' probably refers to a group of artists, not only Coldplay artists, who from now on will get together twice a year for a Global Citizen event, always with Chris but not always with Jonny, Will and Guy. So we shouldn't be all hyped up about this song. It's not strictly speaking a Coldplay song.

I just read that a new album has been released with four new songs by a band called 'Los Unidades'. Chris is singing, but Jonny, Will and Guy are not in it. Has Coldplay broken up????

You are right, touring tickets are the main money source of the industry nowadays. Shows will become even greater and even more 'colourful'. So tickets must and will become more and more expensive and only very rich people will be able to buy them. People in Mexico for instance were complaining that for a Coldplay show they had to pay as much money as a month's wages. One day the whole music industry will collapse. I do hope Coldplay will go on tour again, but at the end of the film they seemed so content with what they had achieved that I doubt it. Besides, they are getting older and new and younger artists are arriving. Well, I shouldn't be so pessimistic. Perhaps they will soon surprise us with a new album and new tours.

They said so many times in the film and in other interviews that this album was the end of a circle and that the last tour was what they had always wanted to achieve. It seems they have no more ambition for new tours. Besides, I think the time of big Musical stadium tours is gradually coming to an end. But I might be wrong.

I felt the same. I was absolutely elated. The message of the film: 'Everything is possible' and 'Never give up' made so much sense after watching this film. These four people were just four ordinary, normal students, Why was it them who became famous and not all the other students there with their guitars? It must have been their determination. They passed their exams just while going through the very difficult times of their early beginnings, which is extraordinary. Everybody can achieve so much more than he thinks he can. Thanks, Coldplay, for showing us this. But the end was also a bit sad, because I think Coldplay will never go on tour again, but I do hope they will release another album
