[29-May-2012] Coldplay @ Ricoh Arena, Coventry, UK
Living in Cornwall you are at a disadvantage when it comes to a lot of things: there is not a good selection of shops, the chances of getting a good job down here are rare and no big bands play here. So when it was announced that Colplay were going on a tour i didn’t batter an eyelid at the thought of having to travel 5 hours to watch one of my favourite bands. It feels like a lifetime ago that i was up at the crack of dawn in a phone que waiting for tickets with the expectation of them all being sold out so i was chuffed when i managed to get tickets for their gig at the Coventry Ricoh Area for the 29th of May. After traveling for what felt like forever in my tin can of a car the minute Colplay embraced the stage i knew that it had all been worth it. They were flash and fabulous; starting their performance with a firework display they managed to keep up the race throughout the show. With breathtaking versions of their old classics such as ‘Yellow’ mixed in with the songs from their latest album, Mylo Xyloto, they played a real variation which kept the crowd on their feet. On arrival to the venue everyone was given a wristband, all different colours, which would then light up and become part of the show which i can only describe as being truly beautiful. Overall the trek up to Coventry from Cornwall as definitely worth it and if i could I would do it again tomorrow. [thanks http://beccaistelling.wordpress.com/2012/06/01/coldplay-live-in-coventry/] -------------------------------------------------------------- It’s the first time I’ve seen Coldplay live and I was not disappointed, what a night to see the band kick-off their UK tour in Coventry. The band’s passion was clear from the start. Coldplay gave a non-stop, action-fuelled, energy-driven polished performance throughout each track. It was one of the most highly energetic performances I’ve seen. Opening to the sound of Back to the Future, the show gave a mass of visual artistic moments alongside a mix of their title tracks. Both supporting acts shared the same passion as the band themselves; in short, Coldplay put together an awesome show. Awesome in that it allowed you to feel part of it: The atmosphere in the venue was relaxed and festival-like, properly helped along by summer-like sun at the end of the day. Then you have THOSE wristbands that lit up in beat to the songs. These elements meant the crowd were ready for the banter from the band and got louder with each song. There was also surprise moment which I won’t spoil by mentioning it here but as a tip, if you’re going it’s worth encouraging an encore. I felt tired just watching them and couldn’t stop dancing throughout. The set was brilliant, simple but effective with 4 scenes each displaying different images in time with the music, in a couple of the tracks two screens had an image of the night’s moon projected onto it. There was a mix of Technicolor, black and white jazz-style images giving excellent profile shots of the band members. There was even over-exposed images of Rihanna beamed across the stage and fireworks – lots of fireworks. As you can probably tell, I was particularly impressed with how many photo opportunities that were produced throughout the show. I thought that the camera shots were awesome and they made you feel that they were part of the show and not just there for the people at the back. The supports acts created a brilliant stating base for atmosphere and energy, both in their unique way. It was the first time I’d seen Rita Ora sing live and she sounded great and bounced around the stage taking full advantage of it and us as a crowd. Rita Ora looked genuine in her enjoyment in performing for Coldplay and us. Following Rita Ora was Robyn who just made me smile from the second she got on the stage. She danced along with her back-to-back tracks showing us the range she had in her voice and finishing with her haunting track “With Every Heartbeat“. By the time Coldplay made the stage I was buzzing both with the songs, heat and the odd bit of cider. Fav song of the show: Yellow Best moment in the show: Far too many to say for certain but when the band sang Viva La Vida – the crowd joined together in unison and it felt good to be a part of…but then of course you have those flashing bands… [thanks http://somewritingspace.wordpress.com/2012/05/30/coldplaylivecoventry/]

Coldplay Wow Fans Ahead Of Summertime Ball 2012 At Huge London UK Tour Gig Chris Martin paid tribute to to wife Gwyneth Paltrow during Emirates Stadium concert. The band delighted the sold-out crowd with a career-spanning set at the second of three gigs at the Emirates Stadium. Taking to the stage a week ahead of their appearance at Capital FM's Summertime Ball, Coldplay kicked off their performance with 'Hurts Like Heaven'. The song was one of a number of tracks played from their latest album 'Mylo Xyloto' and was accompanied by the band's now infamous flashing wristbands, given to every audience member on arrival at the stadium. Frontman Chris Martin could barely contain his excitement as he leapt around the stage, which featured three long runways extending into the audience. Ahead of debut album track 'Yellow' and as the rain began to fall, the singer paid a rare public tribute to his wife, Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow. "I'm going to sing this for my beautiful wife Gwyneth, hopefully you can sing it for someone you love to," he said, sitting at his piano. The song was one of a number of the band's older tracks that was refreshed for the gig, either with an acoustic touch and a more minimal rendition. Coldplay unleashed a series of special effects during their performance, including huge balloons and lasers which shone out across the audience. But it was the crowd's wristbands that lit up again during new songs 'Charlie Brown' and 'Paradise', creating a sea of multi-coloured lights, that were the clear fan favourites. The band concluded their performance with 'Clocks', 'Fix You' and recent 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall'. Coldplay perform at the Emirates Stadium again on Monday (4th June) and play Capital's Summertime Ball at Wembley Stadium on 9th June. Coldplay's setlist was: 'Mylo Xyloto' 'Hurts Like Heaven' 'In My Place' 'Major Minus' 'Lovers In Japan' 'The Scientist' 'Yellow' 'Violet Hill' 'God Put A Smile Upon Your Face' 'Princess of China' 'Up in Flames' 'Warning Sign' 'A Hopeful Transmission' 'Don't Let It Break Your Heart' 'Viva La Vida' 'Charlie Brown' 'Paradise' 'Us Against the World' 'Speed Of Sound' 'Clocks' 'Fix You' 'M.M.I.X.' 'Every Teardrop is a Waterfall' http://www.capitalfm.com/artists/coldplay/news/emirates-stadium-2nd-june-2012/ Interesting setlist!!

We went up to The Emirates Stadium to see Coldplay. The gig was….well….rubbish to be honest. I might write about it over the next few days, but then again it was so dull, I might just try and forget I ever went to it! [thanks http://theonlywayisreading.com/2012/06/ ]

The closest to religion I’m ever going to come Before I first saw Coldplay live I was largely ambivalent towards them. But last night, standing amongst a sea of 65,000 people with a sweaty mess pouring his heart out on stage, it was the closest to religious worship I’m ever going to come. It was spiritual. The whole thing was so flamboyant and colourful. There were fireworks, lasers, cannons shooting thousands of paper butterflies, giant fluro balloons and 65,000 flashing wristbands. Whoever came up with the idea of turning every person in the arena into a living, breathing fairy-light beating in time to the music was inspired. It was a thing of extreme beauty. Even Rhianna ‘turning up late’ couldn’t shake the mood (somewhere a techie is getting fired for not bringing her video in on time). For me, they are by far and away the best live band I have ever seen. When a band plays ‘The Scientist’, asks you if your having a good time and then tells you they “haven’t even played the good songs yet” you know you’re in for a great night. [1-Jun-2012] Coldplay @ Emirates Stadium, London, UK
Luminous and wired After some very upsetting times and quite a bit of drama with my flatmate (we were supposed to go to the Coventry on tuesday), yesterday I ended up going to London to see Coldplay at the Emirates stadium. Yesterday was one of the best days of my life. As you may already know, I am the ultimate concert junkie and I've been dying to see Coldplay for so long, but I knew this was going to be an entirely different experience. Because of my last-minute change I got a seating place. At first I was bummed but, turns out, it was actually better that way. I just want to skip to the best part of it all; the glowing wristbands. Every single one of the 58,000 people in the stadium got a wristband that would light up automatically during the show. There was one moment as they were playing Charlie Brown, when for the first time they turned all the lights off and turned all the bracelets on. Okay, guys, the entire stadium gasped from the beauty of what was in front of us; the pictures don't even explain and the magnificence of the sight is hard to explain in words, but just try to imagine 58,000 coloured lights glowing and moving around in the pitch dark as Coldplay is playing in the background. I've only cried from beauty twice in my life; once was in 7th grade camp in the Sahara desert where I saw the most incredible sky and the Milky Way, and the second time was last night. It was so incredibly beautiful! And it was HUGE! Coldplay didn't just make a marvelous musical show (as they would, with their flawless music!) but they also created an insane visual show with the wristbands, actual fireworks, confetti, balloons, blow up butterflies around the stadium... There were people of all ages, families with kids, elderly couples, couples of 50 year old friends, all there chanting to The Scientist and Viva La Vida and Fix You (my god, Fix You made me an emotional wreck!) and I found it all touching and super adorable. I jammed and sang along to every single song so loud I'm surprised I still have any voice at all! It's been 24 hours now and I am still freaking out. The entire 24 hours yesterday were wonderfully perfect, it was such a fun day and I wish I could thank Coldplay for an absolutely unforgettable night. Coldplay at Emirates last night was a sea of beautiful bobbing bright neon. Stad rock gigs are epic in size and we were high up in the gods of Emirates (in cheapskate seats) but the neon wristbands brought a real sense of intimacy and excitement to the gig. 60,000 fans all flashing pink, green and blue. Great show! http://hanwellnest.wordpress.com/2012/06/02/neon-night/
